  • 1 liter distilled or spring water (33 ounces)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (15 ml)
  • liver cleanse herbs (see below)

Instructions

  • Squeeze the juice of 1/2 organic lemon.
  • Add to 1 liter of distilled or spring water.
  • Shake the bottle of the apple cider vinegar until the cloudy part ("the mother") is well mixed.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of organic raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar.
  • Shake and drink.
  • Drink first thing in the morning and up to four times a day. Always drink on an empty stomach, one hour before or after other meals or drinks.

Herbs for liver support:
To further support the liver during the liver cleanse, we recommend to mix 4 full droppers of Dr. Group’s LivaTrex liquid liver herbs formula. The formula combines science proven herbs such as Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) and Chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri) that can help to repair and regenerate the liver, as well as to dissolve and soften liver and gallbladder stones (gallstones).

Apple Cider Vinegar

Raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) is well known for its natural ability to cleanse, detox and enhance the body’s ability to naturally flush out toxins. For this reason, you can find ACV in most liver detox drink, (and in fact in any cleanse drink recipes).

The research data also supports the liver cleansing benefits of apple cider vinegar. One study evaluated the effect of apple cider vinegar on mice that were fed with a high cholesterol diet. The results suggest that apple cider vinegar was able to protect the kidneys and liver from an oxidative injury [1].

Another study also supported these findings, and suggested that apple cider vinegar was able to regulate lipid metabolism and decrease liver damage in rats that were fed with a high fat diet [2].

Lemon Juice

Drinking lemon juice in warm water is a known ayurvedic practice that has a long traditional use. Natural, safe and effective, this simple home remedy can help the body to cleanse, detox and stimulate digestion.

The liver cleansing benefits of lemon juice are also supported by modern science. The research suggests that lemon juice can regulate elevated levels of serum ALT and AST liver enzymes as well as triacylglycerol and lipid peroxidation in the liver [3].

Liver Herbs

There are a number of herbs that can further improve the liver cleanse results due to some unique properties. Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) for example, may help to repair and regenerate the liver. Chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri), also known as stonebreaker, can dissolve and soften liver and gallbladder stones (gallstones).

For best results, always get your liver herbs from a trusted source. You want to make sure you use high quality fresh herbs (ideally organic or wildcrafted). For the ease of use and to improve the absorption in the body, it is best to use these herbs in an alcohol free liquid formula.

In our liver cleanse protocol we use Dr. Group’s LivaTrex liquid liver herbs formula. Simply add 4 full droppers with the liver detox drink recipe.

Liver Cleanse Juice

Liver Cleansing Juice

This Liver cleanse juice (see recipe) is another effective way to cleanse and your liver and support the detox process. The main difference between the juice to the liver detox drink, is that the juice provides your body much more nutrients. For this reason, we like to combine both the juice and liver detox drink as a part of the liver and gallbladder cleanse protocol.

Liver cleansing juice Ingredients Analysis

Beet

beet Liver cleansing juice

Beetroot is a rich source of a class of antioxidants known as betalains. According to research, beetroot may have a protective effect against oxidative damage to the liver [1].

The health benefits of beetroot don’t stop here. Other studies suggest that beetroot can help to reduce blood pressure, inflammation, and promote healthy circulation and blood flow [2].

Endurance Athletes:  There is a growing number of evidence that beetroot juice may also improve performance. One study that had 9 competitive male cyclists consume beetroot juice, found that the juice enhance their performance [3].

Carrots

carrots Liver cleansing juice

Perhaps one of the most known non-fruit juice that actually taste great on its own, carrot juice offers a strong nutritional profile shown by research to benefit the liver.

According to research, carrots are rich in Retinoic acid that may have a  protective effect on the liver [4]. The data suggests that carrot juice can improve liver functions that may be benefit in cases of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [5].

Celery

celery Liver cleansing juice

Celery is well known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. For this reason and due to its high availability, you can find celery in many body cleanse and detox recipes.

Specifically to the liver, the research data suggests that celery can regulate elevated liver enzymes (aspartate aminotransferase AST, alanine aminotransferase ALT, and alkaline phosphatase ALP) as well as blood lipids [6].

Ginger Root

ginger Liver cleansing juice

Ginger has a long history of use as a natural remedy for digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, indigestion, nausea and vomiting. When you cleanse your liver, you want to make sure your digestion system works well so it can effectively eliminate any toxins released from the liver during the cleanse.

Specifically to liver, the research data suggests that ginger can improve liver enzymes profile and other nonalcoholic fatty liver disease characteristics [7].

Lemon

lemon Liver cleansing juice

There are many reasons to include lemon or lime juice in your liver cleansing juice. The first reason, is that lemon juice can enhance the body’s overall ability to detox and cleanse. Naturally, safely and effectively.

As for the liver cleansing benefits of lemon juice, the research suggests that lemon juice can regulate elevated levels of serum ALT and AST liver enzymes as well as triacylglycerol and lipid peroxidation in the liver [8].

Spinach, Kale & Greens

spinach Liver cleansing juice

According to research, the antioxidant activity of spinach may offer an effective way to improve liver function, and even decrease liver damage done by oxidative stress [9].

Kale (and in fact the entire Brassica vegetables) contain unique nutrients and  phytochemicals that are suggested by the medical community to induce detoxification, stimulate the immune system and prevent oxidative stress. [10].

Juicing the brassica vegetables, however, may not taste so good in juices. Think about cabbage, collard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kohlrabi…on a comical side, think about mustard greens… These options may taste much better when you eat them.

Out of the Brassica, kale offers a much better fit for the liver cleansing juice and blends well in this recipe.

If you are not a big fan of spinach or kale, you can use other leafy greens instead. The research data also supports the liver health promoting benefits of leafy greens in general. According to most findings, leafy greens can benefit liver health and modulate fatty acid composition in the liver [11].

Apples & Cloudy Apple Juice

apple juice Liver cleansing juice

Apples are well known for their many health benefits. Overall health, and more specifically, liver and gallbladder health.

The research data suggests that cloudy apple juice (juice with the pulp) can regulate various liver enzymes, and therefore may protect the liver from damage [12].

Is cloudy apple juice better than clear or pure juice?According to research, it is four times better. A pulish study that tested this exact question, found that cloudy apple juice contains four times more the concentration of polyphenols than the clear juice [13].

For this reason, you may want to keep the pulp when you make the apple juice.

More on apple juice and liver cleansing. In his best-selling book, The Amazing
Liver Cleanse, Andreas Moritz recommended to drink apple juice daily during the liver cleanse. According to Andreas:

Malic acid in apple juice does exceptionally well in dissolving
some of the stagnant bile and making the stones softer…The malic acid in the apple juice softens the gallstones and makes their passage through the bile ducts easy.

Kidney Cleansing Herbs : Benefits, Best Uses & Risks

Kidney Cleansing Herbs

Many kidney health supplements contain kidney cleansing herbs claimed to cleanse, detox and flush the kidneys. Some of the herbs for kidneys can be very effective to detox the kidneys and the urinary tract. Many herbs, however, have very little evidence on their safety or effectiveness. In some cases, they can even cause side effects and kidney detox symptoms.

In this review, we share the best most commonly used herbs for kidneys, that are shown to be both safe and effective. We cover their main benefits and recommended use. We hope this guide will help your journey to a safe, effective and happy cleanse.

For our complete kidney cleanse protocol, see: Protocol.

Table Of Content

Chanca Piedra

Main benefits: dissolves kidney stones.

Chanca Piedra Kidney Cleansing Herbs

We start the list of the kidney cleansing herbs with the most famous herb for kidney health: Chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri).

Also known as stonebreaker, Chanca piedra has a long history of traditional use for kidney, liver and gallbladder health. A growing number of evidence suggests that Chanca piedra has the ability to dissolve kidney stones. (Hence the name).

According to the research data [1,2]:

Chanca piedra was shown to interfere with many stages of kidney stone formation, reduce the stone crystals aggregation and modify the kidney stone structure and composition.

Recommendation: Chanca piedra has long traditional use for kidney and liver health. This use is also supported by published studies. If you consider to add kidney cleansing herbs as a part of your kidney cleanse, Chanca piedra would be our first pick.

Horsetail

Main benefits: diuretic, increases urine flow.

Horsetail Kidney Cleansing Herbs

Second on the list and another kidney cleanse herb we like to include in the kidney cleanse, is Horsetail (Equisetum arvense).
The long traditional use and research data all suggest that Horsetail has a very powerful yet safe diuretic effect. So it can safely increase the urine flow which helps to flush, cleanse and detox the kidneys, with no negative effect on the kidneys, liver, or the urinary excretion of electrolytes and catabolites [3].

Recommendation: Horsetail offers a safe and effective way to increase urine flow during the kidney cleanse, which can enhance the effects other kidney cleansing herbs. For this reason, it is often combined with Chanca piedra.

Hydrangea Root

Main benefits: overall kidney & urinary tract health.

Hydrangea Kidney Cleansing Herbs

Another potent kidney cleansing herb that also has solid evidence on its safety and effectiveness is hydrangea root.

The old cherokee native americans and later the settlers, used a decoction of hydrangea for kidney stones with great success. In his book, advanced course in herbology, Dr. Edward Shook stated that:

Hydrangea herb is a powerful solvent of stone and calculous deposits, not only in the renal organs, but in every part of the organism, wherever they may be located. Therefore it is destined to become a universal remedy for phosphaturia, cystitis, alkaline urine, stony deposits, deposits of oxalate of calcium and others.

These benefits of Hydrangea for kidney health are further supported by the medical community. Hydrangea showed anti-inflammation and antioxidation effects and was able to improve and protect the kidneys function [4].

Recommendation: Hydrangea herb offers an effective and safe way that can enhance the entire kidney and urinary tract. If you consider taking herbs for kidney health, we highly recommend to look for Hydrangea as well.

Uva Ursi

Main benefits: prevents urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Uva Ursi Hydrangea Kidney Cleansing Herbs

Another kidney cleansing herbs superstar we recommend to include in the kidney cleanse is Uva ursi. Also known as arctostaphylos, bearberry, and bear’s grape, this herb has a long history of medicinal use for cleansing the kidneys and the urinary tract.

What about the science? The leaf extract of uva ursi has been approved for use for urinary tract inflammation by the German Federal Institute for Drugs. The research data suggests that uva ursi has natural diuretic, urinary antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. [5].

Recommendation: Uva ursi may help as a natural way to prevent urinary tract infections (UTI). For this reason, we like to include Uva ursi in the kidney cleanse together with other kidney cleansing herbs, as an extra support for the urinary system function.

Marshmallow Root

Main benefits: increases urine secretion & soothes urinary tract.

Marshmallow Root Kidney Cleansing Herbs

Marshmallow root (Althaea officinalis) is well known for its natural diuretic properties [6] , along with an ability to relieve internal irritation and inflammation in the urinary tract.

These two benefits, make marshmallow root an excellent fit for the kidney cleanse; it can help to flush the kidneys on one hand, while also relieves and soothes inflammation in the urinary tract.

Recommendation:  Marshmallow root offers a safe and effective way to promote kidney and urinary tract health. Based on our experience, using Marshmallow root can enhance the effects other kidney cleansing herbs.

Dandelion

Main benefits: diuretic.

Dandelion kidney cleanse herb

One famous kidney cleanse herb you can actually get fresh at the stores is Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale).

Due to its potent natural diuretic properties and high availability, you can find dandelion in many kidney cleanse products. Both in supplements and tea forms.

The historical evidence of using dandelion as a natural diuretic takes us over 2000 years back, seen in both traditional chinese and ayurvedic medicine. Human studies also support the benefits of dandelion for kidney health. As research data suggests, consuming a fresh leaf extract of dandelion increases the frequency of urination [7].

We like to use dandelions in kidney cleanse recipes, especially teas. A good example is our Dandelion Turmeric Lemon Kidney Cleanse Tea (see recipe).

Recommendation: Dandelion may offer a natural and safe way to enhance the elimination of excess fluids by the kidneys. If you can get it fresh, you may want to try to make a kidney cleanse tea at home.

Kidney Cleanse Juice : Top Tips From Our Members

The kidney cleanse juice recipe is one of our best and most popular recipes. Our members like the way it tastes, and the way it makes them feel. Especially when you drink it in the morning instead of your coffee or meal.

With that said, there are a few popular ways you can do to improve the recipe and enhance your results further. Here are the top suggestions from our members, with our answers to the FAQ:

Kidney Cleansing Herbs

As you can see in the recipe, to further support the kidneys, we recommend to mix 1 ml of Dr. Group’s Renaltrex® drops.

The formula combines science proven kidney cleansing herbs that have been used traditionally for many generation to support kidneys health. It is one of the only kidney support supplement that is certified organic. Purity and potency matters. Especially, when you try to cleanse your body from toxins.

Both safe and effective, many of our members find it a quick and easy way to naturally support your kidneys. Just add to this juice or when busy, to your water.

To learn more about Renaltrex®, see Dr. Group’s website.

Coconut Water

Initial research data suggests that coconut water may be effective phytotherapy against kidney stones.[1]

So, while more studies are needed before the medical community will make a decision, If you already like to drink coconut water, you may want to mix 250-500 ml with your kidney cleanse juice. Just make sure there are no added sugars or other ingredients. We are talking about 100% fresh coconut water.

Replace the Orange with Pineapple

If you are lucky enough and can get fresh pineapple at your local store, you can replace the orange juice with pineapple. Use 1 cup of pineapple chunks in this juice recipe.

Watermelon: Is it good for your kidneys?

Many kidney cleanse juice recipes like to add watermelon and melon. In our opinion however, it is much better to eat then.

The main reason is due to their high water (92%) and sugar content. They are very hydrating, fast absorbing and sweet on their own. Just like nature intended. So, if you like to eat watermelons or melons, continue to do so. Use the fruits you do not always like to eat for juices.

Parsley & Cilantro

Parsley and cilantro are known kidney cleanse herbs. They do not however, taste great in juice or smoothies.

A few options here:

  • If you like the way parsley and cilantro taste, add them to your meals. For example, with salsa, hummus, tahini, or salads.
  • Have them in a shot. We got so many requests on this topic, we developed the Parsley – cilantro shot. Just FYI, before you try, it is not as tasty as the recipe above. Not even close. But, surprisingly, many of our members still like it.

Rotate your Greens & Fruits

Lastly, when it comes to juices, smoothies and healthy eating, we always recommend to experiment and rotate your foods, greens, veggies and fruits. This helps provide your body with high variety of nutrients, and prevent sensitivities. It also makes your taste buds happy. Variety is the spice of life.

Specifically to the kidney cleanse, if you think you have an issue with your kidneys, have any medical/health concern, or currently take any medication, speak with your doctor before you do the cleanse.

Kidney Cleansing Benefits

The most common benefit people report during the cleanse, is significantly less water retention. Especially in the midsection, feet, ankles, legs and face. Many people notice their skin looks better, more tight, and that it is easier for them to walk and exercise.

A lot of people who do this cleanse for the first time, are surprised to learn how much excess fluids their body used to hold.

These results are not surprising, considering that the kidneys play a key role in removing toxins and regulating water balance in the body.

The Importance Of Cleansing Your Kidneys

Source: The National Kidney Foundation.

The kidneys are well known as the body’s chemical factories that filter and eliminate toxins. What many people do not know, is that the kidneys also play a key role in the following functions [1]:

  • Remove waste products from the body.
  • Balance the body’s fluids.
  • Release hormones that regulate blood pressure.
  • Produce an active form of vitamin D that promotes strong, healthy bones.
  • Control the production of red blood cells.

In other words: when your kidneys do not perform at their best, your entire body may be affected. According to the National Kidney Foundation [2] :

30 million American adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease, and most aren’t aware of it. 1 in 3 American adults are at risk for kidney disease.

For this reason, we highly recommend to specifically ask your doctor to test your kidney function as a part of your annual checkup.

Kidney Cleanse Recipes

Below are the main recipes of the kidney detox protocol.

Kidney Cleanse Drink

Kidney Cleanse Drink

The first step of the kidney cleanse, is the kidney cleanse drink. Healthy, easy to make, effective, and safe, it is one of the best home remedies you can make to naturally detox and flush your kidneys.

Directions:

  • Squeeze the juice of 1 organic lemon.
  • Add to 1 liter of distilled or spring water.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of organic raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar.
  • Shake and refrigerate, store in a glass bottle.
  • Drink in the morning and throughout the day.
  • Serving size is 1 cup (8 oz, 250 ml) each time, up to four times a day. Always drink on an empty stomach, one hour before or after other meals or drinks.

Kidney cleanse herbs: for added benefit, we recommend to add Renaltrex, Dr. Group’s liquid kidney cleanse herbs complex. Mix 4 full droppers to each 1 cup of the kidney cleanse drink.

How Does The Kidney Cleanse Drink Work?

  • Water.
The main function of the kidneys is to filter waste products and extra fluids and flush them from the body as urine. To do that effectively, the kidneys need enough water. For this reason, the most important step in a kidney cleanse is to drink enough liquids. The current guideline for total water intake for young men and women (ages 19 to 30 years) is 3.7 L and 2.7 L per day, respectively [3].
When you do a kidney cleanse, you may find that you need to drink even more. In General, you should drink enough so you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color.
  • Lemon juice.
Lemon juice is an excellent natural source of citric acid. According to research, drinks that contain citric acid can help to increase urinary citrate excretion, which is a primary focus in the medical management of kidney stones. [4].
  • Apple cider vinegar.
ACV is known to promote an alkaline environment inside the body, which can alter the acidity in the urine. This can help the kidneys to better pass toxins, and may also prevent the formation of kidney stones. A study that evaluated the connection between the dietary habits of 12,570 adults to kidney stones in china, found that more consumption of tea, legumes, and fermented vinegar was associated with a lesser risk of kidney stone formation [5].

Kidney Cleanse Juice

Kidney Cleanse Juice

This kidney cleanse juice recipe is another effective way to flush your kidneys and support the detox process. The main difference between this juice to the kidney cleanse drink, is that the juice provides your body much more nutrients. Especially essential electrolytes and minerals that can help hydrate and support healthy fluid balance.

The juice form makes it easier for the body to quickly digest and absorb the nutrients. It also gives your digestive system a break from having to constantly digest solid foods.

It is best to drink the juice on an empty stomach, when you still didn’t eat solid foods that day.

  • Ingredients: 2 celery stalks, 2 medium carrots, 4 cucumbers, 1 beet, 1 apple, 1 orange.
  • Directions: Peel the beetroot. Run the celery, carrots, cucumbers, beet, apple and orange through a juicer. Drink immediately.

See the complete recipe for the nutritional facts, additional tips and FAQ.

Don’t have time to make the kidney cleanse juice?

Another great option is to eat fresh ripe fruits with high water content. Watermelon, melons, cantaloupe, grapefruits, oranges, grapes are excellent choices. Always eat fruits on an empty stomach, when you still didn’t eat solid foods that day.

Kidney Cleanse Smoothie

Kidney Cleanse Smoothie

The purpose of the kidney cleanse smoothie is to continue and detox your kidneys, while also provide fluids, electrolytes, minerals and essential nutrients to your body. The consistency of this smoothie is much thicker than the kidney cleanse juice, which many people enjoy. Especially considering the high amount of liquids you already had from the kidney cleanse drink and juice.

Ingredients: 1 cup of water (or less), 4 medium cucumbers with the skin, 2 cups of fresh pineapple chunks, stevia vanilla flavor (optional).

Add a few drops of stevia with vanilla flavor. We got this tip from many of our members, and liked the flavor as well when we tested the new recipe. When it comes to stevia, little goes a long way. All you need is a few drops. The vanilla flavor compliments very well the pineapple and cucumbers flavor.
  • Do you like cinnamon?
Sprinkle a dash into the mix. This works very well.

Kidney Cleanse Tea

Kidney Cleanse Tea

The kidney cleanse tea is optional in the protocol, with most people prefer to drink the kidney cleanse tea during the winter, when there is a need to drink something hot.

The homemade kidney cleanse tea recipe uses kidney cleansing herbs and foods known to enhance the kidneys ability to naturally cleanse, detox and flush unwanted substances.

Ingredients: spring water, dandelion, turmeric, lemon, black pepper, honey, stevia.
See the recipe for the complete directions.

Kidney Cleanse Diet

Often overlooked, the kidney cleanse diet can help to boost the results and benefits of the cleanse. The diet focuses on kidney cleansing foods, but also limits foods or drinks that are high in toxins that can cause the kidneys to work harder in order to filter these toxins.

Here are the top guidelines for the kidney cleanse diet:

  1. Eat foods with high water content. Fresh juicy fruits and veggies are excellent choices.
  2. Limit sodium consumption.
  3. Limit dry foods during the kidney cleanse.
  4. Other problematic foods and drinks you may want to avoid eating during the cleanse include: processed foods, meat, dairy, alcohol, beverages, and other artificial drinks.

Kidney Cleanse Meal

Kidney Cleanse Meal detox salad recipe

One of our favorite meals to eat for the kidney cleanse diet, is our famous colon cleanse detox salad (see recipe).

The detox salad is a complete meal using kidney cleansing foods designed to further support the detox process and provide your body with essential nutrients and calories. After drinking liquids all day, the detox salad recipe will make you feel satisfied, happy and full.

Colon cleansing wise, as we mentioned in many of our body cleanses, the body eliminate toxins released during the cleanse through the urine and also through bowel movements. For this reason, you want to make sure your colon doesn’t have accumulated waste buildup that can make the elimination through the colon slower.

Kidney Cleanse Supplements & Herbs

Many kidney cleanse supplements contain herbs known to cleanse, detox and support healthy kidney and bladder function. Some of the herbs can be very effective to detox the kidneys, others have very little evidence on their safety or effectiveness.

The top kidney cleanse herbs that do have evidence as both safe and effective include chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri), uva ursi (bearberry, arctostaphylos), hydrangea, goldenrod (solidago), horsetail (equisetum arvense), and marshmallow (mallow root).

When it comes to kidney cleansing herbs, it is always best to use fresh herbs from a trusted source. Getting fresh high quality kidney cleansing herbs, however, is not always possible. If that’s the case, we recommend to use alcohol free liquid tinctures that contain active extracts of the kidney cleanse herbs. The benefit of using the liquid form is improved absorption and solubility in the body, along with the ease of use. You can easily mix it with water, teas or other detox or kidney cleansing drinks.

A good example is Renaltrex by Dr. Group’s, which is the liquid kidney cleanse herbs complex we use in our kidney cleanse drink.

How To Drink The Kidney Cleanse Tea

When you do a kidney cleanse, it is very important to drink enough liquids to support the cleansing process. A good indication that you drink enough is that you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color. For this reason, we recommend to use 4 cups of water in the kidney cleanse tea recipe.

If you find that the tea taste is weak, reduce the amount of water to 2 cups. Another option to use this kidney cleanse tea is as a base to other drinks: dilute the tea further with more water or add to other drinks. Consume the drink throughout the day.  This may be a better option during the summer.

Kidney Cleanse Protocol

Kidney Cleanse Protocol

The idea of the kidney cleanse is simple: you start your day with a liquid diet: kidney cleanse drink for breakfast, and juice for lunch. You have a kidney cleanse smoothie for the afternoon and eat a kidney cleansing meal for dinner.
See the complete protocol.

The Ingredients In The Kidney Cleanse Tea

  • Lemon juice is an excellent natural source of citric acid. According to research, drinks that contain citric acid can help to increase urinary citrate excretion, which is a primary focus in the medical management of kidney stones. [1].
  • Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) has a long history of use as a diuretic to enhance the natural elimination of fluids by the kidneys. This historical evidence takes us back for over 2000, seen in both traditional chinese and ayurvedic medicine. Human studies also support the benefits of dandelion for kidney health. As research data suggests, consuming a fresh leaf extract of dandelion increases the frequency of urination [2].
  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties with a long history of traditional use that is also supported by many studies. According to research data, curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, may help to reduce harmful molecules that can lead to inflammation in chronic kidney disease. [3].
  • Black pepper’s major active component, piperine, is known for its ability to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin along with other herbs and spices. This combination has a long traditional use that is also backed up by science. According to one study, piperine increased the bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%. [4].

Hydration & Kidney Cleanse

The kidneys main function is to filter and remove waste products and extra fluid and flush them from the body as urine. To do that effectively, the kidneys need enough water.

For this reason, the most important step in a kidney cleanse, is proper hydration. The current guideline for total water intake for young men and women (ages 19 to 30 years) is 3.7 L and 2.7 L per day, respectively [5].

When you do a kidney cleanse, however, you may find that you need to drink more. In General, you should drink enough so you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color.

FAQ: Using Additional Kidney Cleanse Herbs In Your Tea

There are a number of known kidney cleanse herbs that can further improve the kidney cleanse due to some unique properties. For this reason, many kidney cleanse teas and drinks contain herbs known to cleanse, detox and support healthy kidney and bladder function.

Common kidney cleanse herbs may include: chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri), uva ursi (bearberry, arctostaphylos), hydrangea, goldenrod (solidago), horsetail (equisetum arvense) and marshmallow (mallow root) herbs have a long history of traditional use that is also backed up by science.

Getting fresh high quality kidney cleansing herbs however, is not always possible. If that’s the case, we recommend to use alcohol free liquid tinctures that contain the active extracts of these herbs. The benefit of using the liquid form is improved absorption and solubility in the body, along with the ease of use. You can easily mix it with water, teas or other detox or kidney cleansing drinks.

A good example we use in our kidney cleanse protocol, is Renaltrex by Dr. Edward Group. You can add 4 full droppers to each 1 cup of the kidney cleanse tea just before you drink it.

Is Guacamole Good For You? Try Our Detox Healthy Guacamole Recipe

Healthy Guacamole Recipe

Many years ago, we published our detox healthy guacamole recipe. A week later, it went viral. The reviews and feedback have been very encouraging. Everybody loves it!

This recipe is delicious, super nutritious (see nutrition facts below), naturally detoxes and cleanses your body, supports weight loss, promotes healthy digestion, protects the heart and above all, it makes you feel full, satisfied, happy and energized. And it only takes 5 minutes to make.

What we found amazing, is that after all this time, we made no changes to the original recipe, which is based on an authentic guacamole recipe (Mexico).

Based on your many requests, in this post, we’ll revisit the original recipe and share your wonderful comments and suggestions.

Is Guacamole Healthy For You?

The health benefits of avocado, the main ingredient in guacamole are well known and supported by many published studies. But is guacamole healthy for you?

When you stick with the authentic guacamole recipe, it is very healthy. The beauty of guacamole recipe is that it has a very long history of traditional use, with the health benefits of each of the ingredients also supported by modern science. Specifically to avocado, avocado consumption is associated with improved overall diet quality, nutrient intake, and reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes (metabolic syndrome) [1].

Modern versions of the guacamole recipe however, may not always be healthy or good for you. Use of refined heavily processed table salt, high carb chips and other “modern” additions may take this healthy recipe to a completely different direction.

For this reason, we always recommend to stick with homemade guacamole recipes you make. Especially considering how easy it is to make.

Detox Healthy Guacamole Recipe

Our detox healthy guacamole recipe is based on the authentic mexican guacamole recipe. We made the preparation easier and quicker, and added hemp seeds and sunflower seeds to boost the nutritional content.

Use carrots, celery or other crunchy veggies instead of the tortilla or corn chips, and you get a wonderful, yummy, happy and healthy guacamole recipe. In fact, it is probably one the world’s most healthiest detox recipes.

The answer is very simple. Listen to your body. Some people enjoy eating big meals. Others may prefer to eat smaller frequent meals. Here’s a quick summary:

If you wonder about the fat content of this recipe, these are all healthy essential fats on their natural raw state. The recipe is rich in omega 3 (6.2 grams) and monounsaturated fats (MUFA) which are linked to many health benefits. In fact, according to the scientific community, the fats in avocado may help to support cardiovascular health, weight management and healthy aging [2].

Spicy Guacamole Recipe

We put the jalapeño chili peppers as optional, since not all people like spicy foods. If you do like spicy foods, here are a few suggestions you may want to consider to make a spicy guacamole recipe:

  • In our testing, jalapeño chili peppers work the best. If you can’t however get fresh jalapeños, you can still use other chili peppers.
  • Sometimes you can’t get fresh hot peppers at all. If this is the case, an easy way to spice things up that we actually love, is to use chipotle powder. Need to add more heat? add a little ground cayenne pepper.

Green Smoothie Detox Breakfast nutrition facts

The Greens In The Green Smoothie Detox

The spinach – lettuce combination that we use in the recipe blends very well in terms of flavor and nutritional profile:

  • Spinach:  excellent source of folate, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, Iron, Manganese and chlorophyll.
  • Romaine lettuce:  excellent source of folate, vitamin A and vitamin K. It offers a mild sweet flavor for smoothies that helps to balance other greens and veggies.

Since each green may offer different nutrients , we highly recommend to rotate your greens throughout the year.

To make sure your green detox smoothies always taste great, it is best to combine greens that have a more mild taste with different dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, arugula and others that may have a more aggressive taste on their own.

The Fruits In The Green Smoothie Detox

Bananas, apples and strawberries are very popular fruits to use when you make smoothies. Their natural sweetness help to balance the taste of the greens. They also add a pleasant texture to the smoothies.

Just like we recommend to rotate your greens, you may also want to  experiment with different fruits. Great options are tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango and papayas.

It is important to look at the sugar content and see how much you really need. Based on our experience, some people may need less fruits in their smoothies. For this reason, when you change the recipe, always start with half a serving.
