Kidney Cleanse Juice : Top Tips From Our Members

The kidney cleanse juice recipe is one of our best and most popular recipes. Our members like the way it tastes, and the way it makes them feel. Especially when you drink it in the morning instead of your coffee or meal.

With that said, there are a few popular ways you can do to improve the recipe and enhance your results further. Here are the top suggestions from our members, with our answers to the FAQ:

Kidney Cleansing Herbs

As you can see in the recipe, to further support the kidneys, we recommend to mix 1 ml of Dr. Group’s Renaltrex® drops.

The formula combines science proven kidney cleansing herbs that have been used traditionally for many generation to support kidneys health. It is one of the only kidney support supplement that is certified organic. Purity and potency matters. Especially, when you try to cleanse your body from toxins.

Both safe and effective, many of our members find it a quick and easy way to naturally support your kidneys. Just add to this juice or when busy, to your water.

To learn more about Renaltrex®, see Dr. Group’s website.

Coconut Water

Initial research data suggests that coconut water may be effective phytotherapy against kidney stones.[1]

So, while more studies are needed before the medical community will make a decision, If you already like to drink coconut water, you may want to mix 250-500 ml with your kidney cleanse juice. Just make sure there are no added sugars or other ingredients. We are talking about 100% fresh coconut water.

Replace the Orange with Pineapple

If you are lucky enough and can get fresh pineapple at your local store, you can replace the orange juice with pineapple. Use 1 cup of pineapple chunks in this juice recipe.

Watermelon: Is it good for your kidneys?

Many kidney cleanse juice recipes like to add watermelon and melon. In our opinion however, it is much better to eat then.

The main reason is due to their high water (92%) and sugar content. They are very hydrating, fast absorbing and sweet on their own. Just like nature intended. So, if you like to eat watermelons or melons, continue to do so. Use the fruits you do not always like to eat for juices.

Parsley & Cilantro

Parsley and cilantro are known kidney cleanse herbs. They do not however, taste great in juice or smoothies.

A few options here:

  • If you like the way parsley and cilantro taste, add them to your meals. For example, with salsa, hummus, tahini, or salads.
  • Have them in a shot. We got so many requests on this topic, we developed the Parsley – cilantro shot. Just FYI, before you try, it is not as tasty as the recipe above. Not even close. But, surprisingly, many of our members still like it.

Rotate your Greens & Fruits

Lastly, when it comes to juices, smoothies and healthy eating, we always recommend to experiment and rotate your foods, greens, veggies and fruits. This helps provide your body with high variety of nutrients, and prevent sensitivities. It also makes your taste buds happy. Variety is the spice of life.

The Ingredients in The Kidney Flush Drink: Summary of Evidence

Beets: Increase Blood Flow to the Kidneys

Beet root juice Increases Blood Flow to the Kidneys

Out of the common kidney cleansing foods you often see at your local store, beetroot truly stand out. In particular, it is its ability to increase blood flow to the kidneys, which can augment the kidney cleansing properties of other ingredients.

How does it work? Beets are rich in nitrates. When you drink beet juice, the body converts the nitrates into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator, meaning it relaxes the inner muscles of the vessels. As your vessels become wider, your blood flow increases.[8,9]

So when this happens, you may get a better pump at the gym or improve exercise performance. You may also hear the term “natural viagra” as far as the benefits go. All these are linked to the ability to increase Nitric oxide.

In fact, in his post “The Kidney Dysfunction Epidemic”, Dr. Joseph Pizzorno described a study where beetroot juice was able to increase blood flow to the Kidneys, up to 26%. According to Dr. Joseph:[10]

Increasing blood flow to the kidneys has a huge impact on improving detoxification and decreasing oxidative stress.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Flushes Toxins from Kidneys

Apple Cider Vinegar flushes toxins from kidneys

Apple cider vinegar is a very popular natural cleansing ingredient, although the issue is usually that there are not a lot of studies or solid evidence on its effectiveness.

Can apple cider vinegar helps to flush your kidneys? Turns out, it may.

Apple cider vinegar is very acidic. When you drink it however, it actually promote an alkaline environment in the body, which can help to alter the acidity in the urine. This can improve the way the kidneys flush toxins, and may also prevent the formation of kidney stones.

A study that evaluated the connection between the dietary habits of 12,570 adults to kidney stones in china, found that more consumption of tea, legumes, and fermented vinegar was indeed associated with a lesser risk of kidney stone formation.[11]

Lemon Juice: Natural Kidney Stones Protection

Lemon juice protect against kidney stones

Lemon juice is an excellent natural source of citric acid. According to research, drinks that contain citric acid can help to increase urinary citrate excretion, which is a primary focus in the medical management of kidney stones.[12]

Ginger: May Help with Inflammation & Oxidative Stress in Kidneys

Ginger: decrease inflammation and oxidative stress in kidneys

While ginger is a great natural kidney cleansing herb, it does have a very strong and dominant flavor many people do not like.

To address that, we balanced the ginger with beets and lemon in the kidney flush drink recipe. So you get a nice kick, but not too much.

As for the evidence, research suggests that ginger can help improve kidney function and may even protect the kidney from certain toxins. The primary mechanism of protection appears to be ginger’s ability to decrease inflammation and oxidative damage.[13].

Coconut Water: Hydration

Coconut Water Hydration

Coconut water has gained a reputation as a great source of electrolytes and a natural way to hydrate the body. Initial data suggests coconut water can also help protect against impaired kidney function and reduce oxidative stress in the kidneys. In fact, one study showed that treatment with coconut water was able to inhibit crystal deposition in the kidneys, which may help for kidney stones.[14]

To clarify these findings, the researchers didn’t make any claims that coconut water can treat or prevent kidney stones. These are initial results that look very promising.

In the context of natural kidney cleansing, we have here a natural drink (coconut water) we all love that is highly available, with good evidence on its ability to promote kidney health. (Among other benefits).

Kidney Flush with Water

While this goes without saying, you can’t discuss the best drink to flush your kidneys without covering the basics: you need to drink enough water.

The main function of the kidneys is to filter waste products and extra fluids and flush them from the body as urine.

To do so effectively, the kidneys need enough water. The current guideline for total water intake for young men and women (ages 19 to 30 years) is 3.7 L and 2.7 L per day, respectively.[15]

Another way to look at this which we have heard from many physicians, is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water.

In General, you should drink enough so you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color.

How To Drink The Kidney Cleanse Tea

When you do a kidney cleanse, it is very important to drink enough liquids to support the cleansing process. A good indication that you drink enough is that you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color. For this reason, we recommend to use 4 cups of water in the kidney cleanse tea recipe.

If you find that the tea taste is weak, reduce the amount of water to 2 cups. Another option to use this kidney cleanse tea is as a base to other drinks: dilute the tea further with more water or add to other drinks. Consume the drink throughout the day.  This may be a better option during the summer.

The Ingredients In The Kidney Cleanse Tea

  • Lemon juice is an excellent natural source of citric acid. According to research, drinks that contain citric acid can help to increase urinary citrate excretion, which is a primary focus in the medical management of kidney stones. [1].
  • Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) has a long history of use as a diuretic to enhance the natural elimination of fluids by the kidneys. This historical evidence takes us back for over 2000, seen in both traditional chinese and ayurvedic medicine. Human studies also support the benefits of dandelion for kidney health. As research data suggests, consuming a fresh leaf extract of dandelion increases the frequency of urination [2].
  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties with a long history of traditional use that is also supported by many studies. According to research data, curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, may help to reduce harmful molecules that can lead to inflammation in chronic kidney disease. [3].
  • Black pepper’s major active component, piperine, is known for its ability to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin along with other herbs and spices. This combination has a long traditional use that is also backed up by science. According to one study, piperine increased the bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%. [4].

Hydration & Kidney Cleanse

The kidneys main function is to filter and remove waste products and extra fluid and flush them from the body as urine. To do that effectively, the kidneys need enough water.

For this reason, the most important step in a kidney cleanse, is proper hydration. The current guideline for total water intake for young men and women (ages 19 to 30 years) is 3.7 L and 2.7 L per day, respectively [5].

When you do a kidney cleanse, however, you may find that you need to drink more. In General, you should drink enough so you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color.

FAQ: Using Additional Kidney Cleanse Herbs In Your Tea

There are a number of known kidney cleanse herbs that can further improve the kidney cleanse due to some unique properties. For this reason, many kidney cleanse teas and drinks contain herbs known to cleanse, detox and support healthy kidney and bladder function.

Common kidney cleanse herbs may include: chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri), uva ursi (bearberry, arctostaphylos), hydrangea, goldenrod (solidago), horsetail (equisetum arvense) and marshmallow (mallow root) herbs have a long history of traditional use that is also backed up by science.

Getting fresh high quality kidney cleansing herbs however, is not always possible. If that’s the case, we recommend to use alcohol free liquid tinctures that contain the active extracts of these herbs. The benefit of using the liquid form is improved absorption and solubility in the body, along with the ease of use. You can easily mix it with water, teas or other detox or kidney cleansing drinks.

A good example we use in our kidney cleanse protocol, is Renaltrex by Dr. Edward Group. You can add 4 full droppers to each 1 cup of the kidney cleanse tea just before you drink it.
