The protocol only uses natural whole foods, herbs and home remedies. Many people like to also incorporate many of these recipes in their daily life to support overall good health.

We recommend to always check with your doctor before you start this protocol, or in fact do any cleanse. Specifically to the kidney cleanse, if you think you have an issue with your kidneys, have any medical/health concern, or currently take any medication, speak with your doctor before you do the cleanse.

Kidney Cleansing Benefits

The most common benefit people report during the cleanse, is significantly less water retention. Especially in the midsection, feet, ankles, legs and face. Many people notice their skin looks better, more tight, and that it is easier for them to walk and exercise.

A lot of people who do this cleanse for the first time, are surprised to learn how much excess fluids their body used to hold.

These results are not surprising, considering that the kidneys play a key role in removing toxins and regulating water balance in the body.

The Importance Of Cleansing Your Kidneys

Source: The National Kidney Foundation.

The kidneys are well known as the body’s chemical factories that filter and eliminate toxins. What many people do not know, is that the kidneys also play a key role in the following functions [1]:

  • Remove waste products from the body.
  • Balance the body’s fluids.
  • Release hormones that regulate blood pressure.
  • Produce an active form of vitamin D that promotes strong, healthy bones.
  • Control the production of red blood cells.

In other words: when your kidneys do not perform at their best, your entire body may be affected. According to the National Kidney Foundation [2] :

30 million American adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease, and most aren’t aware of it. 1 in 3 American adults are at risk for kidney disease.

For this reason, we highly recommend to specifically ask your doctor to test your kidney function as a part of your annual checkup.

Kidney Cleanse Recipes

Below are the main recipes of the kidney detox protocol.

Kidney Cleanse Drink

Kidney Cleanse Drink

The first step of the kidney cleanse, is the kidney cleanse drink. Healthy, easy to make, effective, and safe, it is one of the best home remedies you can make to naturally detox and flush your kidneys.

Directions:

  • Squeeze the juice of 1 organic lemon.
  • Add to 1 liter of distilled or spring water.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of organic raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar.
  • Shake and refrigerate, store in a glass bottle.
  • Drink in the morning and throughout the day.
  • Serving size is 1 cup (8 oz, 250 ml) each time, up to four times a day. Always drink on an empty stomach, one hour before or after other meals or drinks.

Kidney cleanse herbs: for added benefit, we recommend to add Renaltrex, Dr. Group’s liquid kidney cleanse herbs complex. Mix 4 full droppers to each 1 cup of the kidney cleanse drink.

How Does The Kidney Cleanse Drink Work?

  • Water.
The main function of the kidneys is to filter waste products and extra fluids and flush them from the body as urine. To do that effectively, the kidneys need enough water. For this reason, the most important step in a kidney cleanse is to drink enough liquids. The current guideline for total water intake for young men and women (ages 19 to 30 years) is 3.7 L and 2.7 L per day, respectively [3].
When you do a kidney cleanse, you may find that you need to drink even more. In General, you should drink enough so you have a strong urine flow, with clear urine color.
  • Lemon juice.
Lemon juice is an excellent natural source of citric acid. According to research, drinks that contain citric acid can help to increase urinary citrate excretion, which is a primary focus in the medical management of kidney stones. [4].
  • Apple cider vinegar.
ACV is known to promote an alkaline environment inside the body, which can alter the acidity in the urine. This can help the kidneys to better pass toxins, and may also prevent the formation of kidney stones. A study that evaluated the connection between the dietary habits of 12,570 adults to kidney stones in china, found that more consumption of tea, legumes, and fermented vinegar was associated with a lesser risk of kidney stone formation [5].

Kidney Cleanse Juice

Kidney Cleanse Juice

This kidney cleanse juice recipe is another effective way to flush your kidneys and support the detox process. The main difference between this juice to the kidney cleanse drink, is that the juice provides your body much more nutrients. Especially essential electrolytes and minerals that can help hydrate and support healthy fluid balance.

The juice form makes it easier for the body to quickly digest and absorb the nutrients. It also gives your digestive system a break from having to constantly digest solid foods.

It is best to drink the juice on an empty stomach, when you still didn’t eat solid foods that day.

  • Ingredients: 2 celery stalks, 2 medium carrots, 4 cucumbers, 1 beet, 1 apple, 1 orange.
  • Directions: Peel the beetroot. Run the celery, carrots, cucumbers, beet, apple and orange through a juicer. Drink immediately.

See the complete recipe for the nutritional facts, additional tips and FAQ.

Don’t have time to make the kidney cleanse juice?

Another great option is to eat fresh ripe fruits with high water content. Watermelon, melons, cantaloupe, grapefruits, oranges, grapes are excellent choices. Always eat fruits on an empty stomach, when you still didn’t eat solid foods that day.

Kidney Cleanse Smoothie

Kidney Cleanse Smoothie

The purpose of the kidney cleanse smoothie is to continue and detox your kidneys, while also provide fluids, electrolytes, minerals and essential nutrients to your body. The consistency of this smoothie is much thicker than the kidney cleanse juice, which many people enjoy. Especially considering the high amount of liquids you already had from the kidney cleanse drink and juice.

Ingredients: 1 cup of water (or less), 4 medium cucumbers with the skin, 2 cups of fresh pineapple chunks, stevia vanilla flavor (optional).

Kidney Cleanse Smoothie : Top Tips from our members

The kidney cleanse smoothie is a very tasty smoothie many people love. It also makes an excellent base for many other healthy smoothies recipes.

Since we published the recipe, we got many tips of how to make it even better.

  • Can’t get fresh pineapple?
Other fresh berries such as blueberries, strawberries work great as well. You can also use frozen pineapple or berries.
  • Need a little more sweetness?
Add a few drops of stevia with vanilla flavor. We got this tip from many of our members, and liked the flavor as well when we tested the new recipe. When it comes to stevia, little goes a long way. All you need is a few drops. The vanilla flavor compliments very well the pineapple and cucumbers flavor.
  • Do you like cinnamon?
Sprinkle a dash into the mix. This works very well.

Kidney Cleanse Tea

Kidney Cleanse Tea

The kidney cleanse tea is optional in the protocol, with most people prefer to drink the kidney cleanse tea during the winter, when there is a need to drink something hot.

The homemade kidney cleanse tea recipe uses kidney cleansing herbs and foods known to enhance the kidneys ability to naturally cleanse, detox and flush unwanted substances.

Ingredients: spring water, dandelion, turmeric, lemon, black pepper, honey, stevia.
See the recipe for the complete directions.

Kidney Cleanse Diet

Often overlooked, the kidney cleanse diet can help to boost the results and benefits of the cleanse. The diet focuses on kidney cleansing foods, but also limits foods or drinks that are high in toxins that can cause the kidneys to work harder in order to filter these toxins.

Here are the top guidelines for the kidney cleanse diet:

  1. Eat foods with high water content. Fresh juicy fruits and veggies are excellent choices.
  2. Limit sodium consumption.
  3. Limit dry foods during the kidney cleanse.
  4. Other problematic foods and drinks you may want to avoid eating during the cleanse include: processed foods, meat, dairy, alcohol, beverages, and other artificial drinks.

Kidney Cleanse Meal

Kidney Cleanse Meal detox salad recipe

One of our favorite meals to eat for the kidney cleanse diet, is our famous colon cleanse detox salad (see recipe).

The detox salad is a complete meal using kidney cleansing foods designed to further support the detox process and provide your body with essential nutrients and calories. After drinking liquids all day, the detox salad recipe will make you feel satisfied, happy and full.

Colon cleansing wise, as we mentioned in many of our body cleanses, the body eliminate toxins released during the cleanse through the urine and also through bowel movements. For this reason, you want to make sure your colon doesn’t have accumulated waste buildup that can make the elimination through the colon slower.

Kidney Cleanse Supplements & Herbs

Many kidney cleanse supplements contain herbs known to cleanse, detox and support healthy kidney and bladder function. Some of the herbs can be very effective to detox the kidneys, others have very little evidence on their safety or effectiveness.

The top kidney cleanse herbs that do have evidence as both safe and effective include chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri), uva ursi (bearberry, arctostaphylos), hydrangea, goldenrod (solidago), horsetail (equisetum arvense), and marshmallow (mallow root).

When it comes to kidney cleansing herbs, it is always best to use fresh herbs from a trusted source. Getting fresh high quality kidney cleansing herbs, however, is not always possible. If that’s the case, we recommend to use alcohol free liquid tinctures that contain active extracts of the kidney cleanse herbs. The benefit of using the liquid form is improved absorption and solubility in the body, along with the ease of use. You can easily mix it with water, teas or other detox or kidney cleansing drinks.

A good example is Renaltrex by Dr. Group’s, which is the liquid kidney cleanse herbs complex we use in our kidney cleanse drink.

  1. 5 stars
I plan to do a kidney cleanse next week but do not have a juicer. Do you think it makes much of a difference if I use a blender and make a smoothie instead of a juice? i.e. Can I get away with it? Thank you!

  2. I am planning to take the Kidney cleanse starting from Monday to Saturday, 6 days detoxing program. I just have a question before starting, that drinking too much Lemon water every day would not increase the Citric acid levels in the body or it will only help to clean the body fats along with the kidneys.
