I am often asked for my opinion on anti aging supplements. As a clinical dietitian and a researcher, anti aging has always been one of my greatest passions, and as such, I spend a lot of time looking into the literature and studies.

The good news is that research in the field of epigenetics has shown us that our lifestyle choices can turn off “bad genes” and activate protective and longevity genes, allowing us to significantly extend our lifespan and improve our quality of life.

So based on your many requests, here it is! My latest anti-aging protocol, including my favorite anti-aging supplements, diet, recipes, and lifestyle strategies.

“Beauty From Within”: My Natural Protocol for Graceful Aging

My Natural Protocol for Graceful Aging
I like to think of anti aging beyond wrinkles and skin tightening.
Yes, these are all important, and we all want flawless skin! So obviously, my protocol supports healthy glowing skin.

But, I feel there’s much more to anti aging than making our skin look young.

When I approach anti aging, I look into graceful aging, beauty from within, with evidence-based anti aging strategies shown to:

  • Activate longevity genes
  • Protect from DNA damage
  • Reduce oxidative stress
  • Support healthy mitochondria function
  • Support a stronger immune system

When you support these key anti-aging pathways, you may notice:

  • Look and feel younger
  • Glowing skin, better complexion
  • More energy
  • Better focus and cognitive function
  • Higher sense of well-being and mood
  • Feel healthy and vibrant

Starting the Anti Aging Protocol

  • The anti-aging supplements below offer one of the immediate ways to activate the body’s natural longevity pathways.
  • My protocol goes above and beyond anti-aging supplements, though.
I also cover my favorite anti-aging diet, snacks, smoothie and lifestyle, all backed up by the latest research to support longevity.
  • With that said, there’s no need to start with all of these steps at the same time. Choose the ones you feel more comfortable with, and gradually include more steps as a part your transition to anti-aging living.

2. Anti Aging Diet

Top Anti-Aging Foods

While there is no one anti-aging diet that works best for everyone, there are a few basic principles shown to play a significant role in aging, which most people can benefit from.

Simply put, we limit damaging foods shown to accelerate aging, and introduce more foods with anti-aging properties.

  • Avoid: processed foods, processed meat, sugary drinks, and fried foods. All related to chronic disease and decreased lifespan. All make us look old and tired. Yes, it’s that simple!
  • Limit common inflammatory foods: especially: dairy and gluten (wheat). While every person may be sensitive to different foods, many people have problems digesting dairy and gluten. So, try to eliminate both for four weeks. There’s a good chance you will notice dramatic improvements in the appearance of your skin, and the way you feel.
Generally speaking, if you experience digestive issues on an ongoing basis despite eating healthy, I highly recommend you should work with your doctor and get tested for food sensitivities.
  • Eat less carbs: a growing body of evidence link low insulin levels to increased longevity. So, the less carbs you eat, the better. This doesn’t mean going full blown ketosis, however.
  • Focus on nutrient dense plant-based whole foods: simply put: these plants have more nutrients and antioxidants, yet, contain less carbs and calories. Most people can benefit from eating more: veggies, dark leafy greens, and low glycemic fruits. See my top anti-aging foods section below for my favorites.
  • Eat from the rainbow: look for colorful fruits and veggies, each color represents a different plant pigment that offers different nutrients and antioxidants.
  • Cut meat intake: studies that looked into eating habits of adults in North America and Europe, found that very low meat intake is associated with greater longevity.[13]
These findings correlate with the research data on the Mediterranean diet, a traditional way of eating that also practices low meat intake, well known for its anti-aging benefits.

My Top Anti-Aging Foods

Make sure to check my favorite anti aging snacks and smoothie recipe below!

Reishi, the Longevity Mushroom

Reishi, the Longevity Medicinal Mushroom

Reishi has been viewed as a longevity elixir since Chinese ancient times. According to research, reishi contains unique bioactive components with potent life extending potential. In particular, the polysaccharides, triterpenes and peptides found in reishi have demonstrated powerful antioxidant, immune system support and anti-neurodegeneration effects in studies.[14]

Just like any herb, the source matters. There are many moving parts that have to be taken into consideration to make sure you get a high quality, effective and safe Reishi.

From the location it was grown, the parts of the plant used in making the extract, how the extract was made, freshness, purity, and more. So, always get your reishi (or other herbs) from a source you trust.

A good source of reishi I use: Hawaiian Medicine Foods Organic Reishi.

Anti-Aging Foods You Should Eat Every Day

  • Dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, and dandelion greens. Simply put, go to your local store, and get the freshest preferably organic greens you love eating.
  • Cruciferous vegetables and my favorite, raw broccoli sprouts, are very high in sulforaphane, which may help to increase cellular lifespan and prevent neurodegeneration.[15]
  • Berries: blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries.
One cup a day or more. Always choose organic to avoid herbicides and pesticides.
  • Mediterranean healthy fats. Essential for brain longevity, beautiful skin and to support healthy aging overall including a decreased risk of chronic disease. Good options include raw fresh sprouted nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, and wild small fatty fish such as salmon.
  • Brazil nuts & Selenium:
Selenium is an essential trace mineral shown to have potent anti-aging properties, mainly due to its ability to reduce DNA damage and prolong telomere length.[16].
Brazil nuts are by far the richest source of Selenium. One nut a day (5 grams) provides 150% of your daily value of selenium. If for some reason you can’t eat brazil nuts, consider taking natural selenium supplements.
Dr. Group Organic selenium is a good example made from from certified organic mustard seeds.
  • Fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi help to promote a healthy gut microbiome. 80% of our immune system resides in the gut, so as a part of our anti-aging living, it is essential that we nourish our gut with healthy nutrients that promote good bacteria growth. When needed, take probiotics.
  • Dark raw chocolate: high in polyphenols shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Can also release nitric oxide (NO) which may offer vasodilation and cardioprotective effects.[17]

The Ultimate Anti Aging Snack

The Ultimate Anti Aging Snack

Many chocolate bars on the market are heavily processed or full of sugars, even the natural vegan ones. So you end up with a ton of sugar and very little polyphenols or antioxidants.

If you are a dark chocolate fan that is passionate about anti-aging, always look for dark, raw, low sugar, and organic options.

Hawaiian Medicinal Foods Lovers Bar is one of my favorite anti aging chocolate bars. I find it a tasty powerful anti-aging treat that helps to support my mood, energy levels, and anti-aging living. Low in sugar, yet tasty enough to satisfy my picky chocolate loving taste buds.

A little deeper analysis of the ingredients:

  • Made from the highly prized Arriba cacao beans variety in a process that preserves the nutrients and antioxidants.
  • Longevity medicinal mushrooms: reishi
  • Adaptogens herbs such as maca and ashwagandha that helps to control stress.
  • Mucuna that helps to naturally boost dopamine levels, known to support a youthful sense of well-being.

My Anti-aging Chocolate Smoothie

3. Calorie Restriction: Eat Less, Live Longer

Calorie Restriction Eat Less Live Longer Anti Aging Supplements

Calorie restriction is the most studied experimental intervention for extending lifespan. The idea with calorie restriction is to reduce energy intake (calories), but still supply the body all the nutrients it needs. So we are not risking nutritional deficiencies.

Since humans live longer and are more complex, it is easier to test caloric restriction on animals. So far, studies have shown that a 20 – 50% reduction in caloric intake was able to extend lifespan by up to 50%.

Even more exciting, is the fact that caloric restriction data in humans (while still limited), show the same metabolic and molecular adaptations.[18].

So what’s the catch? Calorie restriction can be unpleasant and difficult to sustain. With less calories, we may lack the needed energy and motivation to thrive and reach our full potential. We can still function and even live longer, but, our quality of life and way of living may not be the same.

Bottom line:

  • I believe we can all benefit from some degree of mild caloric restriction, but I am not sure it is realistic long term.
  • Certain ingredients found in Cell-Fuzion, are shown to stimulate the same longevity pathways that are activated during caloric restrictions, without you actually having to restrict your calories.

4. Intermittent Fasting & Time-Restricted Eating

Intermittent Fasting & Time-Restricted Eating

New research has emerged showing that intermittent fasting may offer some of the benefits of calorie restriction, without the discomforts. According to the data, not only does intermittent fasting tend to reduce calories naturally, it can also turn on Sirtuin longevity genes.[19]

In fact. many people find they feel even better with intermittent fasting despite consuming less calories.

A few examples of popular intermittent fasting protocols:

  • 16 hours fasting each day, 8 hours eating: for example, you eat between 9am to 5pm, or skip breakfast, and eat between 11am-7pm
  • OMAD: one meal a day, may sound extreme, but it is getting very popular, especially if you prefer to eat larger meals.

To get started, it is best to ease yourself into intermittent fasting by simply skipping breakfast for a few days. Also limit processed foods and high carb foods as much as you can. The cleaner your diet, the easier it usually is to practice intermittent fasting.

If you are pregnant, on medication, have diabetes or other conditions, use caution with intermittent fasting and consult with your healthcare provider before.

5. Anti-aging Lifestyle

Anti-aging Lifestyle

The basics pillars of healthy aging:

Get enough sleep

Sleep is deeply essential to every process in your body. Lack of sleep can lead to premature aging and chronic disease. While most adults need at least seven hours of sleep, you may find you need up to nine hours to be at your best. So listen to your body and make sure you are prioritizing sleep in order to optimize your anti-aging potential.

Manage stress

In the past, the fight or flight stress response was essential in order to survive. Think about our ancestors hunting and gathering when all of a sudden a saber tooth tiger showed up.

That stress response, however, doesn’t serve us well if we are under constant stress, which is a known issue in our modern life. With so many studies linking chronic stress to disease, it is essential to have it under control.

Healthy stress management tools include: breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, exercise, spending more time in nature, and many others. The key takeaway: be mindful about your stress levels and include some stress management activities in your daily routine.

Exercise & movement

Exercise is shown to activate the body’s anti-aging genes, reduce inflammation, balance mood and stress, support healthy sleep, boost immunity, and so much more.

The great thing about exercise, is that to get these benefits, you don’t need to join a gym or do a physically challenging routine. So long gone are the days where you need to trudge on a treadmill, (unless this is what you love).

Just find something you love, and get started.  Here are some examples:

  • Join gentle yoga or dance classes.
  • Take a stroll with your dog (or cat!).
  • Find joy in household chores that get your heart rate up.

In my case, I personally fell in love with a gentle dance class at the age of 43. And I had never danced before. Remember, you’re never too old to try new things. Just imagine, and you might find your new favorite hobby!

How to Detox Your Body from Mold Naturally Using Diet & Supplements

How to Detox Your Body from Mold

How to detox your body from mold: a step by step summary of our evidence-based natural mold detox protocol.

Protocol | DietSupplements | Symptoms | Mold in Home | StatisticsReferences

Mold Detox Protocol, Summary

  • Designed to help your body to naturally and safely eliminate mold using natural foods and supplements.
  • Supports all key elimination organs and pathways that play a key role in your body’s ability to detox mold.
  • Addresses mold toxicity damage, especially your immune system, mitochondria, gut microbiome and other critical elements that are often affected by mold toxicity.

How to Detox Your Body from Mold

Duration: 3-6 weeks.
(*See the timeline section below).

  1. Stop mold exposure

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimates that 50% of American buildings have a history of water damage. Indoor mold can develop as quickly as 24 hours after the water damage. Indoor mold is not always visible or has a musty smell.[1]
If you suspect you have an indoor mold problem, it is always best to work with professionals to evaluate and correct the damage.
As this may take time, try to secure a clean room in your home where you spend the most time during the day and night.

  2. Optimize digestive system to detox mold

Oxy-powder®: Take 4 capsules before bedtime, for 5 days, and when needed.
Oxy-powder releases oxygen in the intestines to loosen waste buildup, mold and yeast that tend to stick to the intestinal wall. Expect the next day to have a series of bowel movements. First time users usually report eliminating large amount of stored waste. You may notice mold, yeast and candida in your stool. This is common.

  3. Remove mold with antifungal & mold detox supplements

Mycozil®: Take 3 capsules twice a day before your meals for 6 weeks.
Mycozil is a blend of wildcrafted and organic antifungal herbs with an ability to detox fungus, mold, candida and yeast in the body. The formula is enhanced with natural enzymes that break down the fungal cell wall, and soil-based probiotics to help balance fungal candida yeast imbalance in the gut.[2,3,4]

  4. Increase chlorophyll intake (natural mold binder agent)

E3Live®: Take 1-2 tbsp in the morning on an empty stomach for 6 weeks.
Chlorophyll, the green pigment found in plants is shown in studies to bind to mold toxins which can help the body to eliminate them.[5] Gentle, yet effective, Chlorophyll may offer one of the safest way to bind to mold.
E3Live® is a blue-green algae that has the highest Chlorophyll content and the only option in north america that comes fresh. (It is frozen-liquid, not a powder).
Due to its superior nutritional profile with unique nutrients we rarely get from the western diet, E3Live® can help support multiple body systems.
If it’s not available in your area, you can take a clean source of chlorella as an alternative.

  5. Start the mold detox diet

    Mold detox diet: 6 weeks.
Remove foods and drinks that tend to have have mold in them, eat healthy whole foods to support your body natural detoxification and elimination pathways.

  6. Address individual concerns and imbalances

We are all unique in the way our body responds to mold. This can also affect the ability of our body to detox mold. Some people may need additional steps. See the section below.

Specific Concerns During & After the Mold Detox

See which of the following scenarios may apply to you, and tailor the mold detox protocol to your body’s needs:

Mold symptoms don’t go away

Some people with a slow detoxification function may find that their body needs more time to detox mold.

If you haven’t made any progress 2 weeks after you started the mold detox protocol above, below steps may help to naturally accelerate your body’s ability to detox mold:

  1. Liposomal glutathione: Take 4 ml a day, in the morning on an empty stomach.
Glutathione is one of the most potent antioxidants and cellular detoxifiers found in every cell in the body. Glutathione has the ability to neutralize and bind to water-soluble toxins including mold toxins.
Liposomal delivery system offers higher absorption compared to traditional supplements. The research does suggest liposomal glutathione my offer a natural way to manage mycotoxin-related issues.[6,7,8] Dr. Blair’s Valimenta Liposomal glutathione. A very clean professional strength  source that uses the patented Setria® Glutathione with non GMO European sunflower seed lecithin.
  2. Active Charcoal: Take in the morning on an empty stomach, for up to 5 days.
Ideally: an hour after you take E3Live® & Liposomal glutathione.
Active Charcoal can help to bind to mycotoxins in the digestive tract which can help the body eliminate them through normal bowel movements
Side Effects: Active Charcoal can prevent the absorption of other supplements, so always take it on an empty stomach by itself.
Active Charcoal can also lead to constipation, so always take Oxy-powder the night before and the night after. Make sure to increase your water intake.

Low Energy & Mitochondria Support

A common symptom of mold toxicity is low energy and fatigue. This may happen when the mycotoxins affect the mitochondria. Mitochondria is the part in our cells that produces energy.

To help regenerate and support your mitochondria:

Dr. Group’s COQ10 & PQQ: Take 1 capsule twice daily for 3-6 weeks.
Dr. Group formula combines three patented extracts clinically studied for their effect on the mitochondrial health.

  • BioPQQ®. Shown to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis, the cellular process that produces new mitochondria.[9]
  • Kaneka Q10®. World’s purest, most thoroughly researched CoQ10 shown to protect the mitochondria from oxidative stress and tissue death.[10,11]
  • PrimaVie®. Organic purified shilajit shown to improve the bioavailability of CoQ10 and boost energy production in the mitochondria.[12]

Mold Detox, Probiotics & Candida Overgrowth

Sometimes mold toxicity can impair the good bacteria in the gut and create imbalances. As a result, you may be more susceptible to candida overgrowth and yeast infections.

If that’s the case, you can continue with the mold detox protocol with the following changes:

  • Mycozil3 capsules twice a day before your meals for six weeks.
Mycozil is a blend of wildcrafted and organic antifungal herbs known for their ability to kill candida yeast, natural systemic enzymes that break down candida cell wall, and soil-based probiotics to help balance the candida yeast imbalance in the gut.[13,14,15]
  • Floratrex: Take 2 capsules daily, 20 minutes before your first meal, for six weeks.
Floratrex is a professional strength complex of 75 billion CFUs 25-Strain Probiotic & Prebiotics, designed to promote healthy bacteria in the gut. Prebiotics serve as a food source for probiotics that supports the good bacteria growth in your gut. Taking prebiotics together with probiotics is a common best practice that according to research, can enhance the effectiveness of the probiotic supplements.
  • Candida diet: switch to the candida diet, or limit the carbs in your mold detox diet. Intermittent fasting may help to augment the results.

For the complete candida-yeast protocol: candida cleanse.

Immune Support During The Mold Detox Protocol

When: If you find that you easily catch viral infections such as the common cold or have a weak immune system.

Risk factors for low immune function may include: nutritional deficiencies, chronic stress, lack of sleep, and certain medical conditions.
Always consult with your doctor if you are concerned about your immune system.

With that said, here are the best natural ways to support your immune system:

  • Avoid the most common nutritional deficiencies.
All play a major rule in our immune system: Vitamin DZincIodine.
  • Support with extra vitamin C.
Vitamin C deficiency has been linked to a reduced resistance against certain pathogens. Liposomal delivery system offers higher absorption compared to traditional vitamin C supplements.[16,17].
Dr. Blair’s Valimenta Liposomal C: A good clean source of liposomal C supplements that was clinically tested, made from non GMO European sunflower seed lecithin.
  • Take probiotics daily. 80% of the immune system resides in the gut.
Floratrex: Take 2 capsules daily, 20 minutes before your first meal.
  • Avoid processed foods and simple sugars.

How Long Does It Take for Mold to Get Out of Your System?

The way you may respond to mycotoxins (toxins produced by mold) may be very different from your friends and family.

Your genetics, immune system, nutritional status and other factors can all affect the body’s ability to eliminate mold and mycotoxins.

An Example of a Typical Mold Detox Protocol

Based on your many questions, below you can see a typical mold detox day with the basic supplements. As mentioned on the previous section, you may need to tailor your plan.

Mold Detox Protocol: The Complete Plan

Important: Some people are extremely sensitive to mold, and as such, may experience a severe reaction after mold exposure. If you suspect you are allergic or sensitive to mold, we highly recommend to see a specialist. You may need an immediate medical attention or a specific treatment plan.

1: Stop Mold Exposure

How to Detox Your Body from Mold

While our protocol focuses on how to detox your body from mold, it will not make sense to continue without considering the source of the mold exposure.

A common way we are exposed to mold in breathing indoor mold.[18] As the mold spores break away, they become airborne and enter our bodies through the air we breathe.

Many people experience “musty” smell, although you may not always notice any odor. Common symptoms of mold exposure may affect the respiratory system, although not in all cases.

Exposure to indoor mold can occur in residential homes, as well as in commercial buildings. So it is also important to consider your workplace or school as potential sources of mold exposure.

If you have a mold problem in your home, it is always best to have professionals handle the damage. If you decide to clean up the mold yourself,  protect yourself by wearing gloves and avoid staying in the affected areas for too long.

We’ll cover more details on this topic in the “clear your home from mold” section in this article.

2: Mold Detox Diet

Weeks 1-6

The purpose of the mold detox diet is to help your body cleanse excess mold naturally and safely. In the diet you:

  1. Remove foods and drinks that tend to have have mold in them
  2. Limit common allergens and inflaming foods known to cause sensitivities, weaken the immune system and stress the body
  3. Eat healthy whole foods to support your body natural detoxification and elimination pathways including the immune system.

Foods to Eat During the Mold Detox Protocol

The foods you will be eating while on the mold detox diet are known for their ability to:

  • Bind to toxins and encourage gut health (high in fiber)
  • Reduce inflammation (healthy omega 3 fatty acids)
  • Balance cellular damage (high in antioxidants)
  • Promote tissue healing (high in protein).

Bare in mind, diet should always be tailored to the individual. The plan below is a great place to start for most people.

Important: pay close attention to both the  source and freshness of your foods. Make sure they are always fresh and properly stored. Especially when you eat out. At home, avoid keeping cooked foods for more than a few days to minimize chances that mold will develop.

Foods To Eat on the Mold Detox Diet Include:

Mold Detox Diet

  • All organic raw/steamed vegetables.
Ideally from the rainbow, as each color represents different plant pigment that have different phytonutrients and antioxidants.
  • Dark leafy greens.
Kale, spinach and other are high in chlorophyll which can bind to aflatoxins and reduce their bioavailability. Aflatoxins are toxins produced by certain types of mold.[19]
  • Algae.
E3Live®  blue-green algae has the highest Chlorophyll content and the only option in north america that comes fresh. (It is frozen-liquid, not a powder).
If you can’t get E3Live where you live, try to get high quality chlorella.
  • Healthy fats.
Coconut oil, olive oil, whole avocado (watch for mold) are all great choices. Coconut oil has natural antifungal properties.
  • Fresh nuts and seeds.
Make sure they are fresh and from a trusted source. Mold often develops in old nuts and seeds, so if you are not sure about the source of these, it is best to avoid.
  • Wild caught fish. (2-3 times a week)
Wild alaskan salmon is a great option. Always look for small fish to minimize mercury exposure, always from a trusted source to make sure they are kept in good conditions. Wild fatty fish are high in anti inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, and are also high in proteins, vitamins and minerals.
  • Animal proteins.
Grass fed beef may be ok, always from a trusted source.
  • Fresh whole low sugar fruits. (In moderation).
Good options: cinnamon apples, berries, blueberries, blackberries.
Ideally eat fruits in the morning, always on an empty stomach.
Always watch for mold, especially on berries.
  • Complex whole carbs. (In moderation).
Small amounts of quinoa or rice (wild  or brown) are ok for most people.
Make sure they are fresh and avoid keeping them in the fridge for more than two days.

Avoid Foods & Drinks with Mold

Avoid Foods & Drinks with Mold

Many foods and drinks have small amounts of mold in them. This usually is not a problem to people who are not sensitive to mold. If you have some sensitivity, or are constantly exposed to mold, consuming food/drinks with mold may become an issue.

So as a part of the mold detox protocol, you may want to limit these foods for several weeks. Once you get well, you can slowly reintroduce your favorite foods back.

Common foods known to have mold (or easily develop mold) include:[20]

  • Cultured, aged or fermented foods and drinks such as: kombucha tea, sauerkraut, kimchee
  • Luncheon meats, bacon, or hot dogs
  • Hard salami and dry-cured country hams
  • Cooked leftover meat and poultry
  • Casseroles
  • Grain and pasta (some are allowed, see foods to eat below)
  • Hard cheese, cheese made with mold, soft cheese
  • Yogurt and sour cream
  • Jams and jellies
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Bread and baked goods
  • Peanuts and peanut butter
  • Legumes
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee
  • Yeast and yeast containing foods
  • Old nuts or seeds (fresh nuts and seeds are usually ok for most people)
  • Mushrooms

Limit Common Allergens & Food Sensitivities

Many people who experience issues with mold, also have sensitivities to other foods as well.

If you notice food senvities, or experience ongoing digestive issues such as bloating or excess gas, it is always best to work with a nutritionist to personalize your diet. This way, the diet is tailored to your body and also consider individual foods sensitivities you may have.

With that said, a good place to start is to eliminate common food allergens and irritating foods.

Depending on the severity of your mold exposure, and how fast your body clears the excess mold once you stop the exposure, you should follow the diet for 4-6 weeks.

Foods to avoid include:

  • Processed foods or packaged foods
  • Fried foods
  • Bread
  • Gluten
  • Grains (some are allowed, see foods to eat below)
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Shellfish
  • Soy
  • Legumes
  • Simple sugars
  • Coffee
  • Alcohol

3: Mold Detox Supplements

There are three types of supplements that can help you in the process of removing mold from your body:

  1. Support organs of elimination and detoxification
  2. Have specific ingredients known to bind and detox your body from mold
  3. Support your immune system and other systems in your body that may be affected by the mold toxicity.

Important: Your body naturally eliminates mold toxins (mycotoxins) through the stool (gut), and urine (kidneys).

To minimize side effects from mycotoxins circulating or re-absorbing in your system, it is very important to optimize these pathways. We’ll cover these below.

Optimize Gut & Digestive System to Detox Mold

First 5 days, and when needed.

The first step to detox your body from mold, is to clear your colon and intestines from accumulated waste buildup, mold, yeast and other toxins. This can help the body to eliminate mold quicker with the stool and minimize “healing crisis” or other discomforts during the mold cleanse.

How to Detox Your Body from Mold inferential cleanse
Oxygen Colon Cleanse (Oxy-powder)
:
Releases natural oxygen in the entire digestive system to loosens waste buildup often with mold and yeast that tend to stick to the intestinal wall. This allows the body to flush out this waste naturally throughout normal bowel movements.

Expect the next day to have a series of bowel movements. First time users usually report eliminating large amount of stored waste. You may also notice mold, yeast and candida in your stool. This is common.

In addition to improving digestion, the removal of the accumulated waste by the oxygen may also create an ideal environment in your gut that can encourage friendly probiotic growth, which also play a key role in maintaining a healthy yeast-mold balance in the body.

Antifungal & Mold Detox Supplements

Duration: weeks 4-6

There are a number of unique herbs and plants with known antifungal properties that can help to naturally eliminate mold and yeast from the body.

Theses mold detox properties have been known for centuries and are also backed up by modern research. The idea is that the same mechanism that helps the plant against mold, may be useful when we consume the plants.

Just to give you an example, certain plants such as wild jatoba, are resistant to mold and fungus. They never develop mold even though they grow in a humid and wet environment. In fact, even after the tree dies, unlike most other rainforest trees, the wood of the jatoba tree does not rot.

Due to increased resistance to antifungal drugs, natural antifungals are extensively studied as alternative options. According to research, herbs such as pau d’arco, licorice root, jatoba, and others can offer an effective and safe way to improve the natural fungal, candida yeast balance in the body.[21,22,23]

Not all natural antifungals, however, are safe. Some are even toxic. For this reason, and to avoid a negative reaction, we strongly recommend to get your antifungal supplements from a trusted source.

mycozil best candida supplements for candida cleanse
Mycozil
is our recommended antifungal supplements during the 4-6 weeks of the mold detox. The formula combines wildcrafted and organic antifungal herbs, natural systemic enzymes that break down fungal cell wall, and probiotics to help balance the fungal, candida and yeast imbalance in the gut.

  • Ingredients: jatoba bark, pau d’arco bark, licorice, anise seed, beta glucanase, hemicellulase, brevibacillus laterosporus, fulvic acid.
  • Directions: Take 3 capsules 2 times daily before meals. If you have never used Mycozil before, start with 1 capsule twice a day and gradually increase each day.

Chlorophyll, Mold Detoxifier & Binder

E3Live Chlorophyll Detox superfood
E3Live®: Take 1-2 tbsp in the morning on an empty stomach for 6 weeks.

Chlorophyll, the green pigment found in plants is shown in studies to bind to mold toxins which can help the body to eliminate them.[24] Gentle, yet effective, Chlorophyll may offer one of the safest way to bind to mold.

Activated Carbons (Charcoal): Mold Binder

Detox Your Body from Mold Naturally charcoal

Several studies suggest that active charcoal can bind to mycotoxins in the gut and prevent from from reabsorbing back.[25]

Most people do not need to take charcoal to get rid of mold. Due to some potential side effects (see below), we recommend to start with the mold detox protocol without the charcoal and see your progress.

Active Charcoal Side Effects:

  • Active Charcoal can also prevent the absorption of other supplements. Always take it on a an empty stomach by itself.
  • Active Charcoal can lead to constipation, so always take Oxy-powder the night before and the night after. Make sure to increase your water intake.
  • Charcoal use is not intended for long term, and it is best to consult with a health practitioner before.

Probiotics

Week 3-6

Probiotics are well known for their ability to promote a healthy fungal and yeast balance in the body by altering toxins metabolism in the gut, including mold toxins (mycotoxins).[26]

Good options of probiotics to detox your body of mold include the top studied probiotic strains such as lactobacillus strains. To avoid a reaction to the probiotics, always look for supplements that are free from common allergens, especially soy, dairy, gluten and wheat.

It is also important that the company who makes the probiotics also guarantees their stability and potency. One study that tested 15 different probiotic supplements found that only 4 out of the 15 products met their label [27].

How to Detox Your Body from Mold Probiotics Supplement
Dr. Group Floratrex
is good example of probiotics we use in many of our body cleanses to promote a normal yeast balance and good gut health.

The formula combines the highly studied lactobacillus probiotic strains with inulin prebiotic. Prebiotics serve as a food source for probiotics that supports the good bacteria growth in your gut. Taking prebiotics together with probiotics is a common best practice shown by studies to enhance the effectiveness of the probiotic supplements.[28,29]

Important Facts, FAQ & Statistics About Mold Exposure

Mold Detox Diet vs. Candida Diet

The amount of carbs is a topic we are often asked about, usually in the context of the candida diet.

People with candida overgrowth or excess yeast in their body usually get better when they limit their carbs and sugars which are the primary fuel source of candida yeast.

People that experience mold issues, also seem to be affected more by candida, or don’t get well when they eat more carbs. For this reason, we highly recommend to limit your carbs on the mold detox diet.

Remember that this is not a diet for life. Just for a short term to help your body get rid of the excess mold.

How Common is Mold Exposure?

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), 50% of American buildings have a history of water damage.

The water damage often occur from internal sources such as leaking pipes, bathtub leakage, or external sources like roof leaking from rainwater.

Overtime dampness becomes a problem as various materials in buildings (rugs, walls, ceiling tiles) become wet, creating ideal conditions for mold to develop.[30]

Water damage and indoor mold can occur in residential homes, as well as in commercial buildings. So it is also important to consider your workplace or school as potential sources of mold exposure.

Mold Exposure Symptoms

Certain types of mold are highly toxic and may cause severe issues to people who are allergic to mold. Other risk factors include existing respiratory conditions such as asthma, and a weakened immune system.

People who are not allergic or sensitive to mold may not experience any symptoms when in the presence of mold. It is possible however, to develop mold sensitivity overtime due to ongoing exposure.

This may explain why some people who move to a new home with a mold problem may feel fine in the first few months, or even years, but start to develop some symptoms overtime.

Mold exposure symptoms may change from one person to another but usually include:

Respiratory symptoms:

  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sneezing
  • Wheezing.

If you experience respiratory issues and looking for natural ways to support your lungs and clear your airwaves, see: lung cleanse.

Other symptoms:

  • Red or watery eyes
  • Skin rashes
  • Mood swings
  • Body aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Nosebleeds
  • Memory loss, confusion, “brain fog”.

How to Detox Your Home from Mold

If you think you may have a mold problem in your home, it is always best to have professionals evaluate and correct the damage.

In many cases, the mold grow inside the walls, circulate in the HVAC system or may occur due to an ongoing leaking problem from your neighbor’s bathtub. All these are not issues you can easily repair, and often present a challenge even to professionals.

On the other hand, if you see visible signs of mold, such as black mold in your bathtub or kitchen, do not wait. Remove as soon as you can using hot soapy water, bleach, or commercial mold removal products.

Clear your Bedroom from Mold

Clearing your home from mold often takes time. In the process, a good option to help minimize the exposure is to clear your bedroom from mold. Certain air purifiers and dehumidifiers (if you live in a humid place) can help to remove some of mold particles from the air.

Mold Testing

If you are not sure if there’s mold issue, there are several mold testing kits available online. We are still in the process of researching their effectiveness. Make sure to subscribe to read our findings.

Salt Water Flush: Effective Natural Colon Cleanse or a Terrible Idea?

Salt Water Flush

Research | Dangers | Benefits | Recipes | Common Mistakes

A salt water flush is a popular “internet based” home remedy promoted as a way to flush out your bowels and cleanse your colon.

The idea is simple: you drink water mixed with a large amount of salt. The body can’t absorb such a large amount of salt in such a short time. As a result, you may experience a series of bowel movements, as the body is trying to get rid of the excess salt.

Is a salt water flush good for you? In this review, we’ll look into the research, benefits, risks, different saltwater recipes, and healthy alternatives.

Salt Water Flush: The Research

Drinking water with a ton of salt? what was I thinking?

Just like many natural home remedies, the salt water flush is also based on some traditional practice.

One of our ancestors got up one day and decided it may be a good idea to drink salty water. After generations of trial and error, some method was developed. Is there enough evidence to back up the saltwater flush, however? Not exactly.

The actual technique is an ancient yoga practice called: Shankha Prakshalana, which literally means “cleansing of the counch”.

This method is performed on an empty stomach. You start by drinking two glasses of warm salty water, and then follow with various yoga poses.[1]

A small pilot study actually tested this method on 54 healthy adults. The researchers concluded that yoga plus salty water was effective in cleansing the bowel in preparation for colonoscopy.[2]

There’s a big but. Was it the yoga, the salt water mixture, or the combination of the two that was responsible for these results?

This was never tested. In fact, it is very likely that it was actually the yoga that played a key role here. Multiple studies have suggested that certain yoga poses can promote gut health, even for cases of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).[3]

Salt Water Flush Dangers

Natural doesn’t always mean safe

There are couple of things you should know before you do the salt water flush.

Sodium Overload

The biggest problem with the saltwater flush has to do with the high amount of sodium. Many health experts, conventional and also natural and integrative practitioners have specifically expressed this concern.

In fact, Dr. Andrew weil, MD, one of the world’s leading integrative medicine experts, mentioned: “I am concerned about the sodium load…A single teaspoon of salt gives you 2,400 mg of sodium, more than enough for a day’s intake (I recommend limiting your daily intake to 1,500 mg of sodium).”[4]

So a little salt is essential and make our food taste good, why would we want to “waste” our daily salt allowance on such a risky procedure?

Especially with other natural methods that have shown to be much safer and more effective such as the Overnight colon cleanse or Oxygen colon cleanse.

Salt water flush doesn’t always work

Many people actually face this issue, where they drink the salt water, and…well nothing good happens. They have no bowel movements. Just this unpleasant feeling of bloating inside the stomach as a result of all the salt.

So now you are stuck at home, praying for some bowel movements as you watch your stomach keep swelling. All you can really at this point, is to lay down and wait for this bloating to go away. We heard from some people that decided to drink more salty water. It didn’t help much.

This issue can be quite risky. f the salt water concoction is not expelled from your body in a timely matter, your body can absorb the salt. so you may have sodium overload. We will cover it more below in the what happens is it doesn’t work section.

Salt water flush side effects

Common issues include nausea, bloating, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and vomiting.  Due to the high amount of salt, you may experience electrolyte imbalance and dehydration, which can cause muscle weakness, or muscle cramping.

If you have high blood pressure or other medical condition, do not try this method.

Salt Water Flush Benefits

So now that you know what can get wrong, is there a reason for you to still consider doing the salt water flush?

To clarify, we do not think the saltwater flush is a good idea. Most of the evidence points out that the risks outweigh the benefits. Especially where there are much healthier alternatives.

For healthy alternatives, see:

With that said, as in any review, we do present both the pros and the cons. So below are the benefits and common salt water flush recipes.

Salt Water Flush For Constipation

If you are one of these people that do experience bowel movements shortly after drinking the salt water, you may find it helpful to relieve occasional constipation.

Need to be careful here, though. The salt water flush doesn’t cure or address the underlying cause of constipation. And there are several causes of constipation. You may not be eating enough fiber, are low in magnesium, eating a diet with foods that cause constipation, or don’t drink enough.

In fact, there are a number of medical conditions that may cause constipation. In other words, constipation may be just a symptom, or a larger problem.

On that note, constipation is a big problem that affect over 63 million people in North America.[4] If you experience constipation or digestive issues on an ongoing basis, you should consult with a medical professional.

Using Salt Water Flush For Weight Loss

We are sorry to have to tell you this, but as it turns out, salt water flush (or in fact any type of colon cleansing) isn’t a good way to lose weight.

A salt water flush does not help you lose body fat. Sure, after you have had frequent bouts of diarrhea for a few hours, you may have lost a lot of water weight. The number on the scale might go down but it’s only temporary. The salt water flush does nothing to target body fat and it is likely that your weight loss will soon return to what it was previously.

In fact, many studies found that when people lose weight rapidly, it comes back with a vengeance.

The latest science on weight loss is actually very clear. Losing weight is not a sprint, it’s a “side effect” of a healthy lifestyle that includes healthy eating, getting enough sleep and ideally, some exercise or movement.

Types of Salt Water Flushes & Recipes

You may notice a few variations, but there are also some common guidelines:

  • Always on an empty stomach
  • Ideally in the morning
  • Slightly warm water

Sea Salt Flush  Recipe

  • Dissolve 1-2 teaspoons of sea salt or pink Himalayan sea salt in 4 cups of water.
  • Drink quickly (5 minutes or less).
  • You may feel the urge to visit the restroom within 30 to 60 minutes.

Master Cleanse Salt Water Flush

The Master Cleanse, also known as the lemonade diet, was developed in the 40’s as a natural liquid diet to detox the body and promote a quick weight loss.

Also here, the evidence is pretty limited. In fact, many health experts have expressed many concerns with this type of fad cleanse.

While the master cleanse have many variations, is is based on the lemon-maple-cayenne pepper drink. A common recipe for the Master Cleanse lemonade usually includes:

  • 2 Tbsp of organic freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp of organic grade B maple syrup
  • 1/10 tsp of ground cayenne pepper
  • 10 oz. of filtered water.

With the master cleanse, this drink is all you put inside your body, hence, the rapid weight loss.

So where does the salt walt flush gets into the picture? As in many types of liquid cleanses, due to the lack of solid foods, you may experience less or no bowel movements at all.

To help with that issue as a part of the master cleanse,  you are also advised to take a herbal laxative nightly or a salt water flush in the morning.

Common Misconceptions, Mistakes

What Happens If The Salt Water Flush Doesn’t Work?

As many people learn the hard way, the salt water flush doesn’t always induce frequent productive bowel movements.

If the salt water concoction is not expelled from your body in a timely matter, your body can absorb the salt. So now you may have a sodium overload. Not pleasant, and can be dangerous.

Excessive amounts of sodium in your body can lead to heart, kidney, and liver issues. Not exactly what you are hoping to achieve.

Doing A Salt Water Flush on a Full Stomach

Trust us, you don’t want to be doing this flush after a full meal.  Not only it can disrupt the body’s ability to digest your foods, it can make you feel very sick.

The logic or reason that led some people to believe this is a good idea, has to do with overeating. You ate too much, now you want this bloating to go away as quickly as possible. Not a good idea. The best you can however, is to relax and give your body some time to digest the foods.

Doing Salt Water Flush Too Often

By doing the salt water flushes too often, you are at a greater risk for dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.

Also, just like other types of methods that induce bowel movements such as enemas or laxatives, you may also develop some dependency (mentally, physical, or both). So you may find yourself having to perform these all the time to get your bowels going, or to feel that you are “not full”.

Salt Water Flush Experiences & Results

Thanks to the internet, we can gather some data and reviews before we buy a certain product, or try a natural home remedy such as the saltwater flush,

Has everyone had a great salt flush experience? No, far from it.

In some cases, frequent trips to the bathroom followed by gas, bloating and cramping were enough for some to people to question their decision. A classic “what was I thinking” moment.

Some people that had constipation did feel better shortly after they did the flush. We don’t know however, how did they feel a week or a month after.

Have you done a salt water flush recently? Make sure to tell us your experience in the comments below.

5 Reasons Why All Our Cleansing & Detox Recipes Are Vegan

vegan cleanse detox

A vegan cleanse, diet, or lifestyle may have a different meaning to different people. In this post, we’ll answer one of the most common question we get everyday: why we recommend to go vegan when you cleanse or detox.

Below you will find a summary of our 15 years research and the top reasons we like to  keep our protocols and recipes 100% vegan. For the purpose of this post, we’ll focus on the health benefits, and not get into additional aspects such as the environment and others.

As always, we would love to hear your comments below.

1. It’s What You Don’t Eat

 toxins and heavy metals

If there’s one thing you should remember from this post, let it be this.

Many of the benefits of detox and cleansing are not from what you eat or drink. They are from what you don’t. Eating a vegan diet means that you stop to consume the toxins and heavy metals commonly found in animal products.

Most people know this already regarding meat. But what about fish? Isn’t fish healthy for us? Maybe for our ancestors who used to live in a much cleaner world. The medical community and several health organizations have clearly expressed concerns about toxic high levels of mercury in fish. Not only you need to know which type of fish to select, but also its origin to confirm it comes from clean water [1].

2. Give Your Digestion A Break

Vegan Cleanse Healthy Digestion

Does the following scenario sound familiar? You just ate lunch and are about to pass out. You feel tired, unfocused, bloated and unmotivated to interact with human beings, and just want to take a nap. Chances are, you will not be super productive at work for the next few hours. Out of desperation you go and grab another cup of coffee.

While animal products are not always the reason, many people notice their digestion becomes better once they eliminate them. Especially those who already experience digestive issues such as bloating, gas, constipation, acid reflux and others.

To be completely fair, some plant based options such as beans and legumes may be very hard to digest for a lot of people. For this reason, we also recommend to limit or avoid these during your cleanse. The idea is to consume easy to digest foods short term during your cleanse, and give your digestive system a break from these foods. Fresh fruits, moderate amount of sprouted nuts and seeds, some leafy greens are great options.

3. Reduce Inflammation

Vegan Detox For Inflammation

Ask most vegans athletes about the benefits of a vegan diet, and the first thing you will hear is that they have less inflammation.

A study that evaluated the connection between inflammation to diet, found that [2]:

Meat-based or “Western-like” patterns tended to be positively associated with biomarkers of inflammation…vegetable and fruit based or “healthy” patterns tended to be inversely associated.

Most people think of joint, muscle pain, headaches or migraines when they think about inflammation. According to the research data, however, the negative effect of inflammation on our health may go above and beyond these. A growing number of evidence suggests that chronic inflammation may be the root cause of a long list of health conditions. Just to name a few, autoimmune disorders, cancer, heart disease, IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome), asthma, diabetes, alzheimer’s disease among others [3].

4. Nourish Your Body

Vegan cleanse diet

When you stop consuming animal products, you end up eating more plant based foods. Assuming you choose healthy whole food options, chances are you will be eating much more healthy nutrients than before. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other phytochemicals, all linked to endless health benefits. Most people on a western diet do not get enough of these.

Not surprisingly, many people notice a difference a few days after going vegan. The energy levels, mood are up, skin becomes clear, digestion improves. We see these in our research and cleansing protocols every day. In our opinion, these improvements may be due to two key factors:

  1. You stop eating animal products so your body wastes less energy on having to digest these foods and filter their toxins.
  2. You get higher levels of healthy nutrients from easy to digest plant based foods.

5. Vegan Diet May Help Protect Against Chronic Disease

vegan diet is healthy

The research data on this topic may not always be conclusive, although a large number of health authorities accept this connection. A growing number of evidence suggests that a vegan diet may help to protect against obesity, hypertension, type-2 diabetes, and cardiovascular mortality [4].

While more studies are needed in order to fully study long term veganisms, anecdotal evidence suggests that many people notice improvements in key risk factors in a matter of a few weeks after they switched to a vegan diet. This can be easily tested with most blood tests. Something you may want to consider sharing with your doctor if you have any of these health concerns.

How About A Vegetarian Cleanse?

Vegetarian Cleanse

Many of our vegetarian readers are surprised to learn that the connection between dairy and many health issues is well known and extensively studied.

According to the U.S. national library of medicine [5]:

  • 65 percent of the human population has a reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy.
  • Sensitivity to milk protein may also occur in people that can digest lactose. There is increasing evidence that A1 beta-casein, a protein which is found in most milk in the U.S and Europe is also linked to cows’ milk intolerance [6].

And this is just the beginning:

  • A study that evaluated individuals aged 7-30 years, found that any dairy consumption, such as milk, yogurt, and cheese, was linked to an increased risk for Acne Vulgaris [7].
  • Cohort studies done in sweden, found that high milk intake was linked to higher mortality in men and women. High milk consumption was also correlated with higher fracture incidence in women [8].

The evidence doesn’t stop here. A large number of health authorities such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, PhD, Dr. Neal Barnard, M.D. suggest there’s a link between dairy to cancer. According to the Physicians Committee [9]:

Milk and other dairy products are the top source of saturated fat in the American diet, contributing to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have also linked dairy to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers.

The physicians committee gathers the expertise of more than 12,000 physicians, all specialized in plant-based diets, ethical and effective scientific research.

Gut Cleanse: The Complete Digestive & Gut Health Plan

Gut Cleanse Plan

The gut cleanse natural plan: detox, flush and cleanse the entire digestive system, reduce gut inflammation, and promote gut health with the best whole foods, recipes, meal plans and supplements.

Gut Cleanse Plan

3 easy steps to cleanse your gut and digestive system:

  1. Colon cleanse: See: overview, gut cleanse drink (recipe).
  2. Gut cleanse diet: See: dietfoods to avoid, foods to eat, recipes.
  3. Supplements: probiotics, digestive enzymes.

Plan duration: 4 weeks.

Gut Cleanse Benefits

According to the U.S. department of national institutes of health, it is estimated that 70 million Americans experience various digestive diseases [1].

Multiple studies have suggested a strong connection between gut health to overall good health, immune system function and the ability of the body to fight and prevent disease [2].

For these reasons, the benefits of the gut cleanse may impact your entire body.

Most people report a significant improvements in digestion, with much less digestive issues. People with a history of bloating, excess gas, constipation, diarrhea, and similar issues, or food sensitivities may notice improvements already during the first week.

Other benefits include better looking skin, higher energy, better mood, and reduced chronic infections such as fungal, candida or yeast infections.

You may also feel improvements in your immune system function. This is not surprising, considering that 70% of the immune system resides in the gut.

Lastly, there’s the gut-brain axis. The gut delivers nutrients through the blood to the brain. These nutrients are needed for a healthy brain function.

“Although the brain is the most important organ in the body, I would argue that the digestive system is second. The connection between the brain and the gut is what controls our health.”

Colon Cleanse

Gut Cleanse Colon Cleanse

Duration: week 1.

The first step in the gut detox and cleanse plan, is the colon and intestinal cleanse. Colon cleanse removes accumulated waste buildup, undigested food particles and toxins from the colon, intestines and bowels. This can significantly help to improve digestion, and reduce existing digestive issues.

Releases natural oxygen in the entire digestive system to loosens the waste buildup and undigested food particles that tend to stick to the intestinal wall. This allows the body to flush out this waste naturally through normal bowel movements.

Expect the next day to have a series of bowel movements. First time users usually report eliminating large amount of stored waste.

Most people feel a significant “relief” as they eliminate the stored waste buildup. “feeling lighter”, more energy, higher clarity, a clearer complexion, better bowel movements and digestion, with many digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, body odor and gas greatly improved.

In addition to improving digestion, the removal of the accumulated waste by the oxygen may also create an ideal environment in your gut that can encourage friendly probiotic growth.

Certain supplements are well known for their ability to support gut health, promote healthy gut flora growth and improve digestion. Below is a summary of the most common gut cleansing supplements.

Probiotics For Gut Cleanse

Probiotics Gut Cleanse

Duration: week 1-4.

The use of probiotic supplements to promote gut health and healthy gut flora (microbiota) is widely accepted by the scientific community. The research data suggests that probiotics can help to maintain normal function of the gut mucosa, protect the intestinal mucosa from injuries caused by toxins, allergens and pathogens, and help the immune system to fight future infections [3,4].

Good options of probiotics for gut cleanse are the top studied probiotic strains such as lactobacillus strains. It is very important that the probiotic supplement you use is free from common allergens, especially soy, dairy, gluten and wheat.

It is also important that the company who makes the probiotics also guarantees their stability and potency. One study that tested 15 different probiotic supplements found that only 4 out of the 15 products met their label [5].

VeganZyme
is the enzymes complex we use for the gut cleanse protocols as well as in our other body cleanse protocols to help promote healthy digestion and gut health. The biggest advantage we see in VeganZyme has to do with its versatile formula. With a total of 20 plant based digestive and systemic enzymes, it can support the digestion of a wide variety of foods, which makes it ideal for many different diets, and cuisines.
The addition of the systemic enzymes supports the body’s ability to break down allergens, excess yeast, candida, mucus and other toxins.

Gut Cleanse Diet

Gut Cleanse Diet

Duration: week 1-4.

The gut cleanse diet plays a key role in the gut cleanse; you want to avoid problematic foods known to cause digestive issues, gut inflammation and other problems and eat gut cleanse foods that can help to promote gut health.

Gut Cleanse Elimination Diet

The idea behind the gut cleanse elimination diet is very simple. You want to identify foods you may be sensitive to that.
To do so, you eliminate the foods you suspect that caused issues for a few days, and see if eliminating them improved your symptoms.

A good place to start is common allergens and foods known to cause digestive issues. These includes: dairy, soy, gluten, and peanuts.

If you have a history of digestive issues, food sensitivities, or allergies, you may want to also eliminate eggs, grains, wheat and seafood as well.

Foods to avoid

Gut Cleanse Diet foods to avoid

In addition to common allergens, you may want to limit or avoid the following foods during the gut cleanse:

  • Processed foods.
  • Fried foods.
  • Refined oils and sugars.
  • Alcohol.
  • Hard to digest foods such as beans and legumes.
  • GMOs.

Gut Cleanse Foods

Based on our experience, what works for most people during the gut cleanse is to eat a clean, whole food based diet that is rich in fresh raw fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds.

Raw Fruits And Vegetables

Raw Fruits And Vegetables gut cleanse

Raw fresh fruits, vegetables and leafy greens are high in fiber that helps to promote healthy digestion and bowel movements. The fiber also serves as a food source for the probiotics.

Notice that certain raw veggies may cause bloating and gas to some people. Common example are raw broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and other cruciferous vegetables. If you find that this is the case, do not eat them during the gut cleanse. You can also lightly steam them as this may help to improve their digestion (and taste).

Raw Nuts And Seeds

Raw Nuts And Seeds gut cleanse diet

Fresh raw nuts and seeds make an excellent choice for the gut cleanse diet. Common good options of nuts include almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, and walnuts. Seeds options include hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

For the best results, when you consume nuts or seeds:

  • To improve digestion use raw nuts or seeds, and soak in water for a few hours or overnight. Raw hemp seeds and macadamia nuts are easier to digest and do not require soaking or sprouting.
  • To avoid mold contamination, make sure to get the nuts and seeds that are fresh from a trusted source. It is common to see low quality nuts and seeds at stores. Even at premium health stores. For this reason, if they do not taste good, look or smell weird, chances are they are not fresh.

Benefits of Juicing

Benefits of Juicing  3 day juice cleanse

The idea of juice cleanse, juice fasting or liquid cleanses is simple. You replace meals with healthy juices. This gives your digestive system a break from having to process solid food, and at the same time nourishes your body with vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals your body can easily digest and utilize.

When you make juices, you basically break down veggies and fruits into fiber and juice. You drink the juice & pulp without the fiber. This way, your body can digest and absorb the nutrients from the juice easier and quicker.

Another reason juice cleanses are so popular, is that juices usually taste better to most people, compared to eating whole veggies or fruits by themselves.

The Night Before: Overnight Colon Cleanse Juice

Overnight Colon Cleanse 3 day juice cleanse

  • Main functions: cleanses and flushes your digestive system. Minimize healing crises and side effects during the cleanse.
  • When: the night before the 3 day juice cleanse, and every day during the cleanse, right before bedtime.

The 3 day juice cleanse starts the night before with the overnight colon cleanse drink. This famous juice recipe is one of the most effective natural remedies you can do at home, to quickly and safely get rid of accumulated waste buildup from the colon while you sleep.

Ingredients:

  • Dr. Group Oxy-powder (Oxygen colon cleanse). (4-8 capsules).
Releases natural oxygen in the colon to loosen accumulated waste buildup. This allows the body to easily eliminate the waste though the stool and completely cleanse the colon. Natural, gentle and very effective.
  • Lemon juice (from ½ lemon).
Stimulates digestion, detox the body and help support the kidneys and liver.
  • Raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (1 teaspoon).
Natural ability to flush out toxins from the body. The cloudy part, also called “the mother”, has naturally occurring good bacteria that can support gut health.
  1. Mix the lemon juice and apple cider vinegar with 16 ounces distilled or spring water.
  2. Drink before bedtime on an empty stomach away from any foods or other supplements.
  3. Expect the next day to have a series of bowel movements. First time users usually report large amount of stored waste.
  4. Most people report “feeling lighter”, noticeably flatter stomach, reduced bloating, more energy, higher clarity and better bowel movements and digestion.

Update: We have been hearing from many people who prefer not to drink lemon or apple cider vinegar right before bedtime. These are optional. You can still take Oxy-powder with just water without the lemon and apple cider vinegar.

To learn more about Dr. Group Oxy-powder, see Dr. Group website.

Morning : Lemon Juice Cleanse Drink

3 Day Juice Cleanse lemon juice

Main functions: cleanses & hydrates the body.
When: morning and during the day.

The lemon juice cleanse drink is based on the famous ancient ayurvedic practice of drinking lemon juice in warm water on an empty stomach. This simple recipe can help to stimulate digestion and detox the body.

To make the lemon juice cleanse drink, squeeze the juice of ½ organic lemon into 16 ounces of warm spring or alkaline water. You can also add a few drops of stevia to sweeten the drink if needed.

Many people find it helpful to make more servings and drink more in the morning and throughout the day.

Update: An Important Note about Protein & Cleansing

You may have noticed that the 3 Day Juice Cleanse is low in protein.

We have been getting many questions and concerns about this topic.
Is it OK to be on a low protein during a cleanse?

If you plan to follow the cleanse for just a few days, such as this 3 day plan, then, the answer is: yes, it is OK.

On the other hand, many people make this mistake of doing a juice cleanse or other low protein diets for several weeks. For most people, this is NOT recommended for the following reasons:

  • Tissue repair: If you don’t eat enough protein, your body may lack amino acids needed to repair its tissues. Think about your muscles, skin, hair, nails, organs, even your bones! They are all made our of protein and need enough amino acids. Just to give you an idea, 50% of your bones are made of protein.
  • Enzymes & Hormones: Other than tissue repair, amino acids are essential in order to support your brain, enzymatic and hormonal systems. For example, different amino acids are needed for healthy libido, mood, sleep, and memory.
  • Detoxification: Lastly, certain amino acids play a key role in detoxification. So, if you go too low, you may be at a risk for impaired detoxification. Exactly the opposite what you are trying to achieve!

Protein options for cleansing and low protein diets

If for some reason you need to go on a longer cleanse or a low protein diet, or if you suspect your body doesn’t digest protein very well, you may want to add essential amino acids (EAA) into your diet.

Protein options for juice cleansing and low protein diets

Dr. Minkoff’s Perfect Aminos is our preferred source, as they are shown in research to have a 99% utilization rate. This is 3-6 times better than other proteins or amino acids formulas. Quite remarkable, considering that your body makes no effort at all in order to digest or use these, while other protein sources require a significant digestion effort.

Just like all the products we recommend, Dr. Minkoff’s Perfect Aminos are 100% vegan, pure, Non-GMO. They have no sugars, carbs, or other impurities. In fact, Dr. Minkoff often prescribed these to his patients who suffer from digestive issues or heavy toxins.

If you are not a fan of swallowing pills, you can mix Perfect Amino XP Powder to water or your juices.

Why pineapple & cucumbers?

Besides their amazing taste, pleasant texture, and high nutrients, both pineapple and cucumbers offer unique properties in both juices and smoothies:

  • Bromelain, the enzyme found in pineapple, is well known for its natural ability to reduce swelling and inflammation. Multiple studies suggest that Bromelain may offer a safe and effective natural way to decrease inflammation in the body [1,2].
  • Cucumbers have a long history of medicinal use since ancient times. Due to their high water content, they make an excellent choice to hydrate the body and skin. The cleansing action of cucumbers can also help the body to remove accumulated pockets of old waste materials and chemical toxins [3].

Healthy Coffee Alternatives & Energy During The Cleanse

Healthy Coffee Alternatives

If you are looking to cut down your coffee intake, naturally boost your energy without any stimulants, or help your body adapt to stress, certain herbs such as ginseng, maca (root) and ashwagandha can offer a safe natural and effective way.

We have had great results in many of our cleansing protocols with Dr. Group’s Ginseng Fuzion which includes active ginseng extracts complex, maca, and the anti stress (adaptogenic) herb ashwagandha.

To use: add 2 droppers to your juices or drinks just before drinking when needed, up to 3 times a day.

  • Ginseng is well known for its ability to naturally stimulate energy production in the muscles, improve fat metabolism, reduce appetite, and boost the immune system function [4,5,6.
  • ashwagandha: Several studies found that ashwagandha can decrease body fat, increase lean muscle mass, support healthy body weight management and reduce stress and anxiety [7,8].

Cleanse herbs or herbal cleanse treatment is the mother of modern medicine. The ancient habit to treat diseases with plants has evolved and reshaped many of the modern treatment options.

Know Your Cleanse Herbs

Choosing the right cleanse herbs can significantly enhance your cleanse results. Natural herbal cleanse, however, is not always safe.

To make sure you get the most out of your herbs and in order to avoid potential side effects, here is a quick checklist of the most important facts you should consider before you add cleanse herbs to your cleanse.

How To Choose Cleanse Herbs Checklist

  1. Medication:
Since herbs may interact with medication, always consult with your doctor before.
  2. Use common herbs:
The list of cleanse herbs include thousands of different herbs from different species. Not all herbs are safe or have enough evidence on their benefits. For this reason, always choose common herbs. These usually have a long history of safe traditional use, that is also supported by science. A good example is all the cleanse herbs that we include in this review.
  3. Trusted source:
The source of the herbs matter and can significantly impact both the effectiveness and side effects. The freshness, the time of the year and way the herbs were harvested can affect their potency. In addition, location, growing condition play a key role in the purity of the herbs. This is very important as you want to avoid additional toxins often found in poor quality herbs from heavily polluted areas.
  4. Cleanse protocol with cleanse herbs:
Cleanse herbs shine when they are combined with the proper cleansing protocol. In many cases this also means certain dietary changes.
  5. Read the reviews, ask the questions:
When it comes to any food, medicine, or cleanse herb, always read the reviews of other people. It is always best to learn from the wisdom of the crowd. If there are no reviews, it is safe to assume that there may be better options. That’s the beauty of modern times. Unlike past times where we had to follow what the guru or healer said, these days we have enough data to educate ourselves.

Cleanse Herbs – Summary Of Evidence

The list below summarizes the most common cleanse herbs that have a long history of safe traditional use that is also validated by science.

Most of the herbs below have additional health benefits in addition to their cleansing and detoxifying properties. To make this review useful, however, we focused on the benefits that are more related to body cleansing.

Parasite Cleanse Herbs

Parasite Cleanse Herbs

Parasite cleanse herbs products we use: ParatrexMediterranean oregano oil.

There’s a good reason most natural parasite cleanse protocols include antiparasitic herbs. Some herbs have a natural ability to kill different types of parasites in the body and help to significantly reduce the parasitic load.

A single antiparasitic herb, however, is not going to work against all parasitic infections. Since different parasite cleanse herbs use different mechanism to kill parasites, it is common to include multiple herbs as a part of the parasite cleanse.

The most common parasite cleanse herbs and herbal cleanse combinations include:

  • Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) with Black walnut (Juglans nigra):
Most parasite herbal cleanse formulas combine both herbs, due to their ability to kill different types of worms , parasites, bacteria and fungus [19,20].
  • Clove (Syzygium aromaticum):
Clove is well known for its ability to inhibit parasite eggs and larvae in the body, which is essential in order to disrupt the parasite life cycle. For this reason, you often see clove together with the wormwood and black walnut combination.

  • Mediterranean oregano oil (Oreganum vulgare):
Multiple studies found that carvacrol, the major active component in oregano oil, have antiparasitic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties [23,2425].

To learn more, see our parasite cleanse protocol.

Vaginal Yeast Infections & Candida Cleanse Herbs

Candida Cleanse Herbs

Candida cleanse herbs products we use: Mycozil.

The main reasons natural candida cleanse herbs and natural antifungals are so common, are due to:

  1. High occurrences of candida and yeast infections:
According to the medical literature, vaginal yeast infections (vulvovaginal candidiasis) and candida issues affect 3 out of 4 women. More than 40% of affected women will have 2 or more episodes. Men can have candida and yeast infections as well [26].
  2. Resistance to antifungal drugs:
Resistance to antifungal drugs is common and therefore, many studies look for new natural antifungal ingredients to help address candida issues [27].
  • Pau D’Arco, Red lapacho (Tabebuia impetiginosa):
Pau D’Arco is a well known traditional remedy for fungal, vaginal yeast infections and candida issues (candidiasis), that is also validated by multiple studies [28,29,30].

Both systemic enzymes are commonly used as a natural alternative to break down candida cell wall and biofilm [36].

To learn more, see our candida cleanse and yeast infection protocol.

Lung Cleanse Herbs

lung cleanse herbs

Lung cleanse products we use: Allertrex.

Certain lung cleanse herbs are well known for their ability to detox and support the natural repair and regeneration process of the lungs. Traditional medicine use and modern research data indicate that these herbs may have the potential to relieve respiratory discomfort, reduce airway inflammation, clear and flush excess mucus, phlegm, and toxins from the lungs.

  • Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita):
A few studies suggest that peppermint essential oil can improve respiratory function, increase brain oxygen concentration, and may also help to relax the airway and bronchial smooth muscle tonicity [37,38].
  • Plantain leaf (Plantago major):
Research data suggests that plantain leaf may have an effective anti-inflammatory effect against different upper respiratory tract infections [39,40].
  • Chaparral, Greasewood, Creosote bush (Larrea tridentata):

To learn more, see our lung cleanse protocol.

Heavy Metal Cleanse Herbs

Heavy metal cleanse herbs products: Zeotrex, Organic Selenium.

More and more studies suggest the health risks of exposure to toxic heavy metals. According to the research data, some natural ingredients may have promising chelation properties that can bind to toxic heavy metals and safely remove them from the body [44].

  • Cilantro, chinese parsley, coriander leaf (Coriandrum sativum):
Cilantro is well known for its ability to accelerate the excretion of toxic heavy metals from the body through the urine [45].
  • Selenium:
According to research, selenium helps to increase mercury excretion and decrease oxidative stress caused by exposure to mercury [46].
  • Iodine:
According to some evidence, iodine can detoxify and remove the toxic heavy metals fluoride and bromide through the urine [47].
  • Zeolite (clinoptilolite):
Zeolites are naturally occurring minerals, typically found in rocks and clay. For centuries, many of the uses of zeolites were due to their ability to bind to different metals. Several studies found that clinoptilolite, a naturally occurring zeolite, has the ability to remove toxic heavy metals from the body through increased urinary excretion [48,49,50].
  • Chlorella (Parachlorella beijerinckii, Chlorella vulgaris)
Multiple studies that evaluated cholera’s natural chelation properties, found that chlorella can enhance the elimination of toxic heavy metals from the body [51,52].
