Weight Loss Detox Tea : Top Tips From Our Members
Weight Loss Detox Tea : Iced Tea Version
The detox tea also tastes great when it is cold. This can help to hydrate your body during summer, as well as a healthy alternative to sugary beverages and sodas.
A popular effective way to make the cold version of the detox tea:
Place the detox tea in a mason jar or other glass container.
Add 32 ounces (about 1 liter) of cool water.
Store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
If you have digestive issues such as bloating or gas, add 1 tablespoon of raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar.
You may add 2-3 more bags of organic green tea. No need to heat again, just place the green tea bags in the container.
Apple cider vinegar on its raw unpasteurized form, is well known to naturally detox and cleanse the body. According to research, apple cider vinegar has the ability to regulate blood sugar levels, promote satiation after a meal, regulate lipid metabolism in the liver, and support healthy kidneys and liver function [1,2,3].
If you have never tried to drink apple cider vinegar before, start with 1 teaspoon first in this recipe.
To Boost Energy & Manage Stress
Many of our members like to add 1 dropper of Dr. Group’s Ginseng Fuzion just before they drink the tea, which includes the adaptogenic herbs ashwagandha and ginseng.
Ginseng is well known for its ability to naturally stimulate energy production in the muscles, improve fats metabolism, and reduce appetite [4,5] .
Several studies found that ashwagandha can decrease body fat, increase lean muscle mass, support healthy body weight management and reduce stress and anxiety [6,7].
Keto or Low Carb Diet : Coconut Oil
If you follow a low carb, paleo or keto diet, you may want to add 1 tablespoon of raw extra virgin coconut oil to the detox tea, just before you drink it. According to research, the body can quickly digest and use the coconut oil to produce energy. Taken before a workout, some evidence suggests that the MCT oils in coconut oil may also increase exercise performance [8].
If this is the first time you have coconut oil as a part of a drink, start with 1 teaspoon first in this recipe.
Detox Tea & Turmeric
While this may sound surprising, a lot of our members also like to add ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder to the hot detox tea recipe.
Turmeric for weight loss?
Multiple studies found that Curcumin, the main active compound of turmeric can reduce inflammation in the body, detox and cleanse the liver and kidneys [9,10,11].
Due to curcumin’s potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, many researchers also believe it may indirectly influence weight management as well [12,13].
Turmeric has a very distinct taste that not everyone likes. For this reason, if you are not a big fan of the way turmeric tastes, you may want to not include it as a part of this recipe.
If on the other hand, you like turmeric, you may want to also combine it with black pepper. According to research, piperine, the major active component in black pepper, can enhance the bioavailability of curcumin. This combination has a long traditional use that is also backed up by science. According to one study, piperine increased the bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%. [14].
Best Tea Detoxes For Weight Loss : Main Ingredients
Green Tea Weight Loss
Main benefits: promotes fat loss, suppresses appetite.
There’s a good reason why the best tea detoxes for weight loss usually contain green tea. Multiple studies found that green tea can increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation at rest and during exercise, promote weight loss and improve insulin sensitivity [15, 16].
According to research, green tea weight loss benefits are due to two components in green tea: catechins polyphenols, and caffeine. The researchers believe that both the catechins and caffeine in green tea work in synergy together to decrease body weight more effectively than each of these alone [17,18,19].
For this reason, for best weight loss benefits, we prefer unprocessed green tea with naturally occurring caffeine, over decaffeinated green tea.
Additional evidence also suggests that green tea may be able to suppress the hunger hormone, ghrelin. This can be very beneficial, since when ghrelin is high, then you are hungrier [20,21].
If you prefer to drink oolong tea instead of green tea, the research data also suggests you may still get some weight loss benefits [22]. We recommend to stick with green tea though, as the number of evidence for its weight loss benefits is higher.
Multiple studies suggest that ginger and its major constituents have the ability to reduce body weight, supress hunger, and improve glucose levels and insulin sensitivity [23,24,25,26].
Another reason you may find ginger as a key ingredient in many detox teas, is that ginger is well known as a natural traditional remedy for digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, excess gas, indigestion, nausea and vomiting [27].
Furthermore, ginger may also help to naturally detox and cleanse the kidneys and liver. According to research, ginger has the ability to protect kidneys from different toxins, regulate liver enzymes, control liver inflammation and reduce the risk to develop nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [28,29,30].
Lemon Juice
Main benefits: stimulates digestion, detoxes and cleanses the body.
Drinking warm water with lemon juice in the morning is an ancient ayurvedic practice to stimulate digestion and detox the body. According to research, lemon juice may also support the liver and kidneys [31,32].
Some evidence suggests that lemon polyphenols can modulate lipid metabolism and therefore may help to suppress body weight gain [33]. Most health experts and nutrition experts, however, do not consider lemon juice as an effective weight loss tool.
For this reason, the main reason we still recommend to include lemon juice as a part of the detox tea recipe, is due to its cleansing and detoxifying benefits.
Cayenne Pepper
Main benefits: boosts metabolism, suppresses appetite.
Multiple studies suggest that capsaicin, the active components responsible for the spiciness of cayenne pepper, has the potential to boost metabolism, increase thermogenesis and lipid oxidation, suppress appetite, and boost the metabolism [34,35,36,37].
In this detox tea recipe, however, we have cayenne pepper as an optional ingredient. The reason is that not everyone can tolerate cayenne pepper in a drink.
A lot of people do enjoy the cayenne kick flavor. Quite a few people, however, experience stomach pain after they add cayenne pepper to the detox tea. For this reason, if you want to try the cayenne pepper option, start with just a dash to see if you can tolerate the cayenne on an empty stomach.
Goji Berries
Main benefits: detoxes and cleanse liver & kidneys, supports healthy weight loss and vision, anti-aging.
Goji berries or wolfberries (Lycium barbarum) are ones of the best known and admired berries in the traditional chinese medicine. According to the evidence, for more than 2000 years, goji berries have been used to detox and cleanse the liver and kidneys, control weight, support healthy vision and promote anti-aging [38].
Modern science found that the active polysaccharides in goji berries have promising potential health benefits including anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anti-fatigue, anti-diabetic, antiviral and others. For this reason, you may see more and more studies that evaluate the therapeutic and health-promoting effects of goji berries [39].
In traditional chinese medicine, tea is one of the most preferred carriers of goji berries. In addition to their health benefits, in this detox tea, goji berries add natural sweetness despite being very low in sugar content.

This recipe works with any veggie salad. A good example is our colon cleanse detox salad.
The candida cleanse protocol below summarizes our 15 years of experience and research on candida overgrowth and natural yeast infection treatment.
The idea of the natural candida cleanse plan is simple.
You starve the yeast, make it weak by diet, foods and herbs that kill candida, and rebuild your gut health with probiotics.
The best candida cleanses always follow these three elements: starve, kill, and rebuild.
Special consideration was given in the protocol to both effectiveness and safety. So you avoid candida cleanse side effects and die off symptoms. Safety should always comes first. Especially when you naturally cleanse at home.
Best Candida Cleanse Protocol
Starve, Kill, Rebuild. The 3 steps to get rid of candida and yeast infections:
Starve the yeast : candida colon cleanse to remove waste buildup from the Intestines that feed candida. See: colon cleanse.
Kill candida with candida cleanse diet and antifungal supplements. See: diet, supplements.
Rebuild gut health with probiotics for candida. See: probiotics.
Duration: week 1 and when needed during the cleanse.
The objective of the candida colon cleanse is simple : starve the yeast.
To do so, you get rid of waste buildup and undigested food particles in your intestines that feed candida.
One of the best ways to naturally and safely cleanse the colon, is to do a natural oxygen colon cleanse (Oxy-powder). Oxy-Powder releases natural oxygen in the intestines that loosens waste buildup and undigested food particles that tend to stick to the intestinal wall. This allows the body to flush out this waste naturally through normal bowel movements.
Most people start to feel a significant relief from many of their candida symptoms as they eliminate the stored waste. Don’t be surprised if you see dead candida in your stool. This is common, as the waste buildup is the food source of candida. While this may not be the most pleasant thing to see, it is still much better to have the candida yeast out of your body.
Prevent Candida Cleanse Side Effects
There’s another reason we recommend to start the candida cleanse with the colon cleanse. During the candida cleanse, the body eliminates the dying candida and its toxic byproducts through bowel movements.
For this reason, you want to make sure your colon is free from waste buildup that can slow down the elimination process, and make toxins circulate in your system longer. Having waste buildup in the colon is one of the main reason behind the side effects and candida die off symptoms people experience during the cleanse. It just takes the body much more time to eliminate these toxins.
Candida Cleanse Diet
Duration: weeks 2-8.
The main idea behind the candida cleanse diet is to starve the yeast and make it weak. You avoid foods that can feed candida.
This is far more important than eating foods that kill candida. According to research, the carbohydrates we eat from the diet are the primary and preferred nutrient sources for candida albicans yeast [1].
For this reason, most candida cleanse diet plans and menus restrict high carb foods. You do have to make sure, however, that you starve the yeast but not yourself.
In order for the candida diet to work, you replace the carbs with enough healthy fats and proteins so you still have the energy and nutrients to support your daily activities, emotional state, and body’s needs.
Candida Cleanse Recipes
Due to their importance, we wrote an entire post on the candida cleanse recipes and diet plan, including food list, natural home remedies, diy recipes, common mistakes to avoid and the relevant scientific evidence. (Read the complete post).
Candida Supplements
Duration: weeks 2-8.
So you cut down the main food sources of candida, and made the yeast even weaker with the candida cleanse diet. Now it is time to kill candida.
There are a number of unique herbs with known antifungal properties that can kill candida very effectively. Natural antifungals are extensively studied as an alternative option for antifungal drugs. Anti candida herbs such as pau d’arco, licorice root, jatoba, and others can offer an effective and safe way to improve the natural candida cleanse results [2, 3, 4].
Not all natural antifungals, however, are safe. Some are even toxic. For this reason, and to avoid a strong reaction, we strongly recommend to get your antifungal candida supplements from a trusted source.
Dr. Group’s Mycozil is our recommended candida supplements during weeks 2-8 in our candida cleanse protocol. We have found it to be both safe and effective.
The formula combines wildcrafted and organic antifungal herbs, natural systemic enzymes that break down candida cell wall, and probiotics to help balance the candida yeast imbalance in the gut.
Directions: Take 3 capsules 2 times daily before meals. If you have never used Mycozil before, start with 1 capsule twice a day and gradually increase each day.
Probiotics For Candida
Duration: weeks 2-8.
There are two main reasons most health experts recommend to take probiotics for the candida cleanse:
Candida overgrowth and yeast infections are linked to excess candida yeast imbalances in the gut, or a compromised gut flora [5, 6].
A weak immune system is a common risk factor to develop candida overgrowth and yeast infections [7].
Probiotics supplements populate the intestines with beneficial organisms that can limit the overgrowth of candida yeast, and help the body to rebuild a healthy gut flora and strong immune system.
On a healthy state, a diet rich in fermented foods and fiber can support a healthy gut flora and candida yeast balance. When you have candida or yeast infections, however, you may want to enrich your diet with probiotic supplements.
Good options of probiotic for candida are the lactobacillus probiotic strains, that many studies found safe and effective for candida yeast infections as well as to support the immune system [8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13].
To avoid a reaction due to sensitivity to milk, we recommend to use dairy free vegan probiotics from a trusted source.
It is important that the company who makes the probiotics also guarantees their stability and potency. One study that tested 15 different probiotic supplements found that only 4 out of the 15 products met their label [14]. We have seen this many times in our research as well. These quality issues can be very frustrating.
Floratrex is our recommended probiotics for the candida cleanse. The formula combines the highly studied lactobacillus probiotic strains with inulin prebiotic. Prebiotics serve as a food source for probiotics that supports the good bacteria growth. Taking prebiotics together with probiotics is a common best practice that according to research, can enhance the effectiveness of the probiotic supplements [15, 16].
Directions: take two capsules with water 20 minutes before breakfast.
Candida Cleanse Side Effects
Candida cleanse side effects may occur when candida yeast starts to die during the cleanse. These symptoms can affect your entire body and your well-being.
Common candida die off symptoms include: skin itching, rashes, flu-like symptoms, fever, headache, weakness, fatigue, nausea, joint, muscle body aches and pain, digestive issues such as diarrhea, loose bowel movements, bloating, gas, cramps, stomach pain, tenderness, excess mucus, breathing problems, and even vomiting. Some people also feel anxiety, depression, brain fog and additional mind balance symptoms.
Healing crises or herxheimer reactions are not a sign you are healing. They do not mean that the candida cleanse is working. This is a common misconception that is simply not true.
Candida Die Off Symptoms
When you experience candida die off symptoms, it may indicate that the amount of toxins released by the dying candida is more than what your body can safely handle. If you use antifungal herbs or candida supplements, it may also mean that you have a reaction to these herbs. Natural doesn’t always mean safe.
Based on our experience, most candida cleanse side effects are unnecessary. You should avoid them with proper attention. Since this is a very common problem in both parasite and candida cleanses, we wrote an entire post on it.
Especially: how to avoid die off symptoms or minimize them in case you already experience issues. We included simple guidelines and natural home remedies we have found both effective and safe. (Read the complete post).
Candida Cleanse FAQ
Maintain Your Results After The Candida Cleanse
Many people find that a few weeks after they started the candida cleanse, they already have no symptoms. Other people may need the full eight weeks. Especially with candida symptoms that affect the nails, as these usually take longer time to heal.
The best way to maintain your results is to keep eating healthy. Work directly with your health provider if you have risk factors for candida and yeast infections, especially antibiotics, uncontrolled diabetes, or a weakened immune system [16, 17].
After the 8 weeks, or if you have no more candida symptoms:
Supplements: stop taking antifungal supplements and see how you feel. Continue to take the probiotics for the full eight weeks to support the rebuilding of your gut flora.
Diet: you can introduce slowly more foods to your diet and see how these changes make you feel. Many people notice that their taste buds completely changed and they no longer have strong desire to eat high carb foods or sweets.
Strongest Candida Killer Or Safe Antifungals?
As we have mentioned, choosing the strongest candida killer for the candida cleanse may not always be a good option.
Ideally, you want to kill candida at a pace your body can safely handle. This allows the body to naturally eliminate the excess candida yeast and restore the candida yeast balance in the gut.
This process does take time. As the body heals from the candida yeast infection and becomes stronger, you feel better with much less candida symptoms.
Try to kill candida too fast with aggressive antifungals, good chances you will experience side effects and strong candida die off symptoms. We have seen this happening too many time.
Using aggressive antifungal candida supplements will not shorten this time. In many cases, you will have to stop the cleanse and let your body recover, before you can start again. For this reason, for the best candida cleanse benefits, go for consistency and safety.
Natural Antifungals List
Many herbal teas, green powders and other non candida supplements contain common herbs with antifungal properties. On a healthy state, these products may not cause any issues. Taking some of these products during the candida cleanse, however, when you are more vulnerable to die off symptoms may cause die offs.
For this reason, it is important to look at the label of your herbal based products. Common natural antifungal herbs include oregano oil, tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract, garlic, olive leaf, berberine, pau d’arco, caprylic acid, and coconut oil.
Essential oils and other natural extracts from foods that normally have mild antifungal properties you tolerate, may become much stronger once in a concentrated form. Common examples include cinnamon, cloves, ginger, allicin (from garlic), oregano oil and others.
The main idea behind candida diet recipes is simple: you starve the yeast.
There is, however, a catch with this approach that can cause many challenges:
You have to make sure you replace the carbs with enough healthy fats and proteins so you still have the energy and nutrients to support your daily activities, emotional state, and body’s needs.

Candida Recipes : Starve The Yeast, But Not Yourself
Based on our 15+ years of experience with candida cleansing, here are the main reasons many people experience challenges with the candida diet.
We specifically address all of these in all our candida diet recipes.
Cut the carbs but…still consume too much carbs. The research data on this is very clear. Very often, eating carbs can make you want to eat more…carbs. It is a known vicious cycle you want to avoid.
Still consume foods that can feed candida yeast, such as dairy, gluten, alcohol.
Don’t eat enough calories, specifically don’t consume enough fats and proteins to replace the carbs.
Don’t consume enough fiber to support gut health, digestion and satiation.
The result: Many people find themselves constantly hungry, with low energy, feeling miserable. They don’t see enough benefits from the candida cleanse diet, and give up.
Candida Diet Recipes Plan : Find Your Staples
To make the candida cleanse diet work, you need to find your staples. All you need is a few basic candida recipes that agree with your body, that you enjoy, and can easily make.
So you make your staple recipes every day, eat, repeat. Until you get better.
Focus on candida diet recipes that have:
Enough calories.
High fat, high protein, high fiber content.
Foods that agree with your body.
How you feel after you eat these: energy, mood, and satiation.
According to research, fats, protein and fiber play a key role:
Fats and proteins have a positive effect on satiety and appetite. Fats appear to regulate appetite through several mechanisms including the release of appetite hormones [2, 3].
Fiber is also known to increase satiety after meals, decrease hunger, and promote gut health. This is very important considering that in many cases, the root cause and source of candida issues is in the gut [4, 5].
This surprises a lot of people, but one of the benefits of the candida diet is that you can eat a lot of healthy fats. High fat meals usually taste much better to most people, are more satisfying and make you feel full longer.
This also means that there’s no need to chase “healthier” carb foods such as grains, legumes, beans, quinoa, buckwheat or sprouted wheat breads that don’t taste good anyway.
Apple Cider Vinegar – Coconut Anti Candida Drink
Main features: antifungal, gut health, digestion, energy, reduce candida sugar cravings.
There’s a reason why we start the candida recipes guide with a drink and not a meal. Sugary beverages! It appears that many people find it hard to give up these during the candida diet.
The apple cider vinegar – coconut drink is designed as a healthy alternative. Drink first thing in the morning and up to four times a day. Always drink on an empty stomach, one hour before or after other meals or drinks.
Shake the bottle of the apple cider vinegar until the cloudy part ("the mother") is well mixed.

Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. If this is the first time you make this drink, start with 1 teaspoon.
Add a few drops of vanilla extract, xylitol, stevia or monk fruit to sweeten.
Drink first thing in the morning and up to four times a day. Always drink on an empty stomach, one hour before or after other meals or drinks.

A few popular add-ons:
Sparkling water: If you like sparkling drinks, you can add ½ cup of pure sparkling spring water. A few studies suggest that sparkling water can have a satiating effect, and may also help with indigestion.[6, 7] The research data on these benefits, however, isn’t consistent. So you may want to see if adding sparkling water made any difference to you.
Need more energy but still want to avoid coffee? Many of our members like to add 1 dropper of Dr. Group’s Ginseng Fuzion just before drinking, which includes adaptogenic herbs such as ashwagandha and ginseng. Besides its ability to naturally improve energy [8], Ginseng has demonstrated antifungal activity against Candida albicans in a few studies [9, 10] and is also well known for its ability to naturally boost the immune system function [11].
Dr. Minkoff’s Perfect Aminos Drink: Avoid The Candida-protein Catch-22
Main features: Support tissue repair including gut healing, promote energy, reduce cravings, prevent protein deficiencies.
Many people with candida overgrowth also have poor digestion. After all, the source of the infection is almost always in the gut.
This often leads to a catch-22: In order to heal the damaged tissues caused by the candida overgrowth, you need to eat enough protein. But, if your digestion is compromised, your body may not be able to effectively digest and utilize the amino acids from the protein you eat. Hence the problem: how can you heal your gut if you can’t effectively digest and extract nutrients from your meals?
This is exactly where Dr. Minkoff’s Perfect Amino XP Powder can make a big difference when combined with the candida diet. After over 20 years of research, Dr. David Minkoff, M.D. developed a natural amino acids formula that was shown by research to have a 99% utilization rate. There are no sugars, no carbs, with no impact on blood sugar levels at all. Nothing here to feed candida!
In fact, Dr. Minkoff research showed the body can utilize this formula 3-6 times better than other proteins and even amino acids combinations. Simply put, your body makes no effort at all in order to digest and utilize the Perfect Amino formula. In contrast, other protein sources typically require a complex and significant digestive effort. Even for people with healthy gut function.
Quite remarkable research. In his practice, Dr. Minkoff often prescribed his amino acids formula to patients who suffer from impaired digestion and related conditions such as leaky gut, candida or other infections. It is where the body needs that healing support and tissue building the most. Ironically, in his research, Dr. Minkoff found most of his patients had very low levels of amino acids.

In addition to its high fiber content, versatile nutritional profile, health benefits, avocado is very low in sugars and net carbs. How low? an average size avocado has less than 3 grams of net carbs.
You can eat avocado as is, or for added flavor, add a few drops of fresh lemon or lime juice with himalayan salt to taste. Like a little more spice? add a little chipotle powder to the mix.
Feel like snacking more? use the avocado as a dip with celery and carrots instead of the unhealthy tortilla chips.
Raw Nuts & Seeds
Fresh raw nuts and seeds (unsalted, unroasted) are excellent natural snacks for the candida diet. You can eat them by themselves, or with a salad.
A few important comments about nuts and seeds:
To improve digestion use raw nuts and seeds, and soak in water for a few hours or overnight before you eat.
To avoid mold contamination, make sure to get the nuts and seeds that are fresh from a trusted source. It is common to see low quality nuts and seeds at stores. Even at premium health stores. For this reason, if they do not taste good, look or smell weird, chances are they are not fresh.
Typical serving size: 1-2 oz.
Ideal nuts and seeds for the candida diet include almonds, brazil nuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, hazelnuts, hemp seeds, macadamia nuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, walnuts.
Pumpkin seeds are also known for their strong antiparasitic properties [13, 14].
Candida And Fruit
We do not consider sugary fruits as staples for the candida diet. We do however, get many questions on this topic. So here’s our take on it.
Eating fruits while on the candida diet has always been a controversial topic. Since most fruits are high in sugars, and sugars feed candida, we can conclude that fruits can feed candida as well. Right?
According to research data, however, there’s not enough evidence.
Based on our experience, fruits consumption on the candida diet can be helpful for some people. How do you know?
If you eat a small piece of fruit in the morning, and feel great, energized, happy and satisfied, then you may want to continue to do so.
In case you don’t feel anything positive after eating the fruit, then feel free to avoid sugary fruits while on the candida diet.
If you consider eating fruits, a few guidelines:
Best fruits for the candida diet: fresh ripe berries. 2 cups in the morning (around 10 grams of net carbs) is a safe serving size.
Always eat fruits on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning.
We do not recommend fruits smoothies while on the candida diet.
To clarify – fatty fruits such as avocados are extremely low in sugars, and are allowed on the candida diet. In fact, they are one of the best foods to eat while on the candida diet.
Candida Tea
The candida tea recipe is a great natural home remedy you can easily make at home. Drink it hot or cold, to safely cleanse and detox candida yeast from your body and boost your energy levels.
Ingredients: green tea or black tea, ginger, cinnamon, coconut oil, lemon, stevia. See the complete recipe.
Candida Diet Recipes Ingredients – Evidence
Below you will find a summary of the evidence and links to the published studies. While there are many additional benefits of course, we focused on the benefits for the candida cleanse.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar on its raw unpasteurized form, is well known for its ability to naturally detox and cleanse the body. It is the only vinegar that is widely accepted as a candida friendly food.
According to research, apple cider vinegar demonstrated antifungal activity against Candida albicans as well as antibacterial action against E. coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. The research data suggests that apple cider vinegar has the ability to destroy the structural proteins and metabolic enzymes of the pathogens tested[15, 16, 17].
On its own, apple cider vinegar may not be the strongest candida killer. There are definitely more potent natural antifungal foods and herbs out there. For this reason it makes a great addition to candida recipes along with other natural antifungals.
Another important benefit of apple cider vinegar for the candida diet, is its ability to regulate blood sugar levels and promote satiation after a meal [18].
Dark Chocolate & Candida
Many people that experience strong sugar cravings during the candida cleanse, are surprised to learn that dark chocolate may be able to help.
One study had 16 men eat milk or dark chocolate. The researchers looked into the impact of chocolate to appetite. The study found that [19]:
Dark chocolate promotes satiety, lowers the desire to eat something sweet, and suppresses energy intake compared with milk chocolate.
This is exactly why chocolate can make such a big difference in the candida diet. This is also the reason that gives chocolate its bad rap. Most of the chocolate products you find at the store contain high amount of sugars, and low quality heavily processed cacao beans.
Chocolate and cacao are not the same. Chocolate is made from the beans and seeds of the cacao tree, together with other ingredients that may not be as healthy. Cacao, on its own, however, is very healthy and has been consumed for many centuries in its natural unprocessed form.
In fact, according to research, cacao has more phenolic antioxidants than most foods. Multiple studies suggest that cacao consumption may help to protect nerves from injury and inflammation, improve satiety, cognitive function, and mood [20, 21].
Due to these benefits, many health experts recommend to consume cacao on an ongoing basis. We recommended to use raw organic cacao powder as a part of the candida diet recipes.
Chia Seeds & Candida Recipes
There are a few reasons we consider chia seeds as a staple on the candida cleanse diet. The first, chia seeds are well known to promote satiation. A study that had 24 young women add chia seeds to their breakfast, concluded that chia seed consumption may induce short-term satiety in healthy individuals [22].
The second reason, is the nutritional profile of chia seeds. Chia seeds make an excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid omega-3 fatty acid (ALA), vegetable protein, dietary fiber, antioxidants, and important minerals. [23].
Chia seeds are high in soluble fiber, which can act as prebiotic, a food source for the healthy bacteria in the gut. This means that it can promote the growth of probiotics and contribute to better gut health [24].
When you put chia in water or other liquids, they form a gel within 5-10 minutes. This is a very popular way to make poudings, cakes, cookies, ice creams, crackers, pancakes recipes, and also to thicken smoothies and soups. Once in gel form, the body can digests the chia seeds without the need to blend.
Coconut Oil : Candida Diet Staple
Coconut oil is a true staple you see in many candida diet recipes that use oils. Many studies were able to support its antifungal activity against Candida albicans and other pathogens. According to the evidence, capric and lauric acids, two of the medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil, are the ones mainly responsible for its ability to kill candida [25, 26].
There’s another reason coconut oil makes such a great fit for the candida diet. Coconut oil is an effective alternative energy source to carbs.
This helps with one of the biggest challenges with the candida diet. You have to reduce your carbs as they tend to feed candida. As a result, many people don’t have the energy they used to have. This is where coconut oil can significantly help, as the body can quickly digest and use it to produce energy. Much easier than other fats. This is a well known use of coconut oil you can see in many low carbs dietary protocols such as keto diet, as well as in pre workout recipes.
The research data was able to validate this use as well. According to the evidence, the Medium-chain triglycerides in coconut oil (MCT oil), can increase exercise performance [27].
Natural Sweeteners For The Candida Diet
Natural sweeteners can play a key role in the beginning of the candida diet. You may find you do not need them, however, as your taste buds get used to the high fat low carb meals. For this reason, it is best to use them in moderation and reduce as your taste preferences change.
So what are the best natural sweeteners for the candida diet?
Organic monkfruit, also known as Luo han guo.
Stevia (look for brands that specifically mention they remove the bitter aftertaste).
Xylitol from non-GMO corn or birch bark.
All of these options have very minimal impact on blood sugar levels. Xylitol actually demonstrated antifungal activity against Candida albicans in one study [28].
Taste wise, we find that every person’s preference may be different. Stevia seems to be the most popular one, although not everyone likes its taste.
We like to combine natural sweeteners with a little himalayan salt to balance the overall flavor of the recipe. Always make sure these sweeteners are 100% pure without any additional ingredients.
The noatmeal (low carb oatmeal alternative) recipe below offers a great healthy way to start your morning. The recipe uses natural whole foods and spices you can easily find at your local store.
Since we published the original noatmeal detox recipe, we got hundreds of suggestions and different ways you can make the recipe.

There are essentially two ways we like to make this recipe. With or without the veggies. Both are healthy, taste great, and easy to make, just a matter of a personal preference.
We recommend to try the version with the veggies, as we find it an easy and tasty way to get your greens.

Top Tips From Our Members & FAQ
No Veggies – Sweet Version – Most Popular: This is by far the most popular option, as the classic breakfast option to replace the traditional oatmeal porridge. Instead of the spices in the recipe below, use the following: ¼ tsp of vanilla extract, dash of cinnamon and stevia or pure monkfruit. Add salt to taste to balance the flavor. Many people like to also add fresh raw nuts and seeds just before serving.
No Veggies – Savory Version – 2nd Most Popular: To get a savory flavor, use the salt, pepper, and chipotle powder as shown in the recipe directions. If you don’t have candida concerns, add 1 tablespoon of unfortified nutritional yeast just before serving.
Flax seeds, ground vs. whole: When you consume whole flax seeds, they pass through the gut intact. In order for the body to better absorb their nutrients, you need to grind them. When you grind flax seeds, the exposure to oxygen overtime can make some nutrients break down and become rancid. For this reason it is ideal to buy whole seeds and grind them just before you make the recipe. As an alternative, if you do buy ground flax seeds, look at the expiration date and make sure they are fresh.
Veggies: Should I cook, sauté, steam or eat raw? The research suggests that certain nutrients may become more available by cooking. Other nutrients however, may get destroyed by heat. The option you choose of course, can also change the way the veggies taste. For this reason, we like to use a combination of raw, and lightly cooked veggies together. You can put some in the saucepan as you cook, and leave a few raw and add to the recipe just before serving.
Chocolate lovers: you can add 1 tablespoon of raw organic cacao powder to the sweet version of the recipe. You may also want to see our healthy, low carb chocolate mousse recipe.
The Nutrients In The Noatmeal Detox Recipe
Noatmeal Detox Recipe Benefits
There are many reasons recipes for low carb oatmeal alternatives are so popular. Whether it is the need to reduce carbs, eliminate gluten or other cereal grains, you still want to make sure you get enough nutrients, so you avoid deficiencies.
For this reason, when we developed the noatmeal detox recipe, we focused on both taste and nutrients. The nutritional profile is exceptional. We gave special considerations to key nutrients that often become lower on low carb diets.
Below is a summary of the main benefits, with links to the published studies when applicable.
Low Carbs Doesn’t Mean Low Energy
The recipe specifically includes different nutrients that boost your energy levels. We strategically used fast and slow acting ingredients, so you get both the quick energy boost with the sustained energy that may last for many hours as well.
The coconut butter has unique nutrients the body can quickly digest and utilize, so you feel the energy boost shortly after you eat the notemal. The energy from the nuts and seeds will come hours later.
Fiber & Gut Health
The importance of dietary fiber for overall health is well known, especially to promote intestinal regularity and healthy digestion. The average fiber intake in the US, however, is less than half of the recommended levels [1].
The daily value for fiber is 25 grams per day (based on a 2,000 calorie diet). This recipe provides you with 21 grams of fiber. No fiber supplements, no powders. Just natural whole foods.
The noatmeal detox recipe is high in soluble fiber, which can act as prebiotic, a food source for the healthy bacteria in the gut. This means that it can promote the growth of probiotic and contribute to better gut health [2].
Natural Cleansing & Detoxification
In addition to the soluble fiber, the recipe is also high in insoluble fiber.
Insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water, and can pass through the gut largely intact [3]. This fiber adds bulk to the stool which can help to promote regular healthy bowel movement.
Think about insoluble fiber as rough brooms inside your colon that grabs accumulated waste buildup and toxins on their way out.
Reduce Inflammation
Both omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids are essential and are needed to support good health. A growing number of evidence, however, suggests that excessive amounts of omega 6 fatty acids in the diet can lead to inflammatory, autoimmune, cardiovascular diseases, and may increase the risk to develop cancer.
According to research, western diets are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, and have excessive amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. In comparison, human beings evolved on a diet with equal amounts of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids. In the average western diet, however, the amount of omega-6 is up to 15 times more than the omega-3 [4].
We addressed both concerns in the noatmeal detox recipe:
Omega 3 : 9.4 grams (590% of your daily values).
Omega 6: 13 grams (77% of your daily values).
Noatmeal Detox Recipe Ingredients : Summary Of Evidence
Flax Seeds
Flaxseeds make a great source of both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber, and one of the best plant based sources of omega 3 fatty acid [5].
According to research, the oils, fibers and flax lignans in flaxseeds have many potential health benefits and may help to reduce the risk to develop cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, autoimmune and neurological disorders [6].
Why Soaking & Grinding
When you consume whole flax seeds, they pass through the gut intact. So you may not absorb all their useful nutrients. For this reason, a common traditional best practice is to soak the seeds with water and grind them before eating.
Nuts & Almonds
Many studies suggest that nuts have nutritional characteristics that can benefit human health and prevent many diseases. When you introduce nuts into your diet on an ongoing basis, you significantly increase in the quality of the diet. Nuts are rich in essential fatty acids, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and bioactive compounds with antioxidant potential [7].
Unlike carbs that often cause a quick energy boost followed by a crash when the blood sugars drop, the energy you get from nuts and seeds in more subtle and can last much longer. For this reason, nuts play a key role in many low carb diets, as an alternative source of fuel.
Why Almonds
When we made the recipe, we tested different nuts and seeds. The nuts that our testers liked the most, were the almonds. Second place – pecans, third place – macadamia nuts (for the savory option).
As for the health benefits of almonds, out of the different options of nuts, they are well known for their balanced profile of fatty acids. So if you are looking to control the levels of omega 6 in your diet, but still enjoy the health benefits of nuts, almonds are an excellent choice. Almonds also make a great source of vitamin E. Just 1 oz of almonds provide you with 50% of the daily values.
Coconut Butter
Coconut butter is the meat of the coconut after it goes through grinding process that turns the coconut meat into butter consistency. So you get both the coconut oil, and in addition, the other nutrients in the coconut meat.
The reason we included coconut butter as a part of the recipe, has to do with a few unique characteristic of coconut: energy, cleansing, antifungal, anti microbial, and flavor.
Coconut oil is well known for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties, and demonstrated significant antifungal activity against candida yeast and other pathogens [8, 9].
Coconut oil is a rich source of medium-chain triglycerides, commonly known as MCT oils. These oils are different from most oils in the way the body digests them. The body can utilize the MCT oils much quicker to significantly boost the energy levels.
This is a well known use of coconut oil you can see in many low carbs dietary protocols such as keto diet, pre workout supplements, and as a way to improve exercise performance [10].
For this reason, many nutrition experts consider MCT oil as one of the best alternative energy sources to carbs.
Hemp Seeds
The are two reasons we recommend to include hemp seeds as a part of the noatmeal recipe.
The first reason is the nutrients in hemp seeds. The nutritional profile is simply exceptional. Similar to chia seeds, hemp seeds are one of the only plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid omega-3 fatty acid (ALA). Hemp seeds are also very high in easily to digest high quality protein [11, 12].
Just to give you an idea, when you eat 1 oz of hemp seeds (the amount in this recipe), you get:
9 grams of protein.
3 grams of omega 3.
Over 40% of your daily values or iron, magnesium, manganese and phosphorus.
Over 25% of your daily values of zinc, and B1.
And the carbs? less than 1 grams of net carbs.
The second reason we like hemp seeds, is their taste and texture. Hemp seeds bring a very mild nutty flavor and a fluffy texture to the recipe.
Broccoli
Broccoli is well known for its high content of bioactive phytochemicals such as glucosinolates, phenolic compounds, vitamin C, and minerals. Many studies suggest that a diet high in broccoli may help to prevent cardiovascular diseases, different types of cancers and oxidative stress [13].
In addition to its nutrients and health benefits, we like to use broccoli for this recipe as its texture and flavor blend very well with the other ingredients. If you prefer other cruciferous vegetables, you may use them instead or in addition to the brocoli as well. Brussels sprouts also work very well in this recipe.
Common cruciferous vegetables include: cauliflower, cabbage, kale, garden cress, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts.
The health benefits of cruciferous vegetables are well known and supported by many studies. Cruciferous vegetables contain unique nutrients and phytochemicals that are suggested by the medical community to induce detoxification, stimulate the immune system and prevent oxidative stress [14].
Spinach
Spinach makes a great source of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and bioactives known to promote health. Due to its exceptional nutritional composition, many researchers consider spinach as a functional food. (Meaning its nutrients go beyond basic nutrition).
According to research, spinach-derived phytochemicals and bioactives are able to prevent oxidative damage, modulate metabolism, inflammation, antioxidant defence, regulate blood sugar and lipids, and may help to curb food intake by inducing secretion of satiety hormones [15].
In this guide, we focus on the top foods, recipes & remedies proven by science to have potent natural detoxifying liver and kidneys abilities. All, natural, safe whole foods you can easily get at your local store.
Use them on their own as an easy way to boost your diet with foods that are good for your liver and kidneys, or to enhance your liver and kidney cleanse protocols.
Raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) is well known for its natural ability to cleanse, detox and flush out toxins from the body.
The research data suggests that apple cider vinegar detoxifying liver and kidneys properties come from its ability to regulate lipid metabolism in the liver, and protect the kidneys and liver from an oxidative injury due to high fast diet [1, 2].
Specifically to the kidneys cleanse, many health experts believe that apple cider vinegar can naturally promote an alkaline environment inside the body, which can alter the acidity in the urine. This can help the kidneys to better pass toxins, and may also prevent the formation of kidney stones.
A study that evaluated the connection between the dietary habits of 12,570 adults to kidney stones in china, found that more consumption of tea, legumes, and fermented vinegar was associated with a lesser risk of kidney stone formation [3].
Perhaps one of the most famous ayurveda home remedies to detox and cleanse the body; drink warm water with lemon juice first thing in the morning.
The research data suggests that lemon and lime juices can prevent kidney stone formation due to their high citric acid content. Citrate has the ability to bind with urinary calcium and calcium oxalate crystals which may help to prevent crystal growth [4, 5].
As for the liver cleansing benefits of lemon juice, the data suggests that lemon juice can regulate elevated levels of serum ALT and AST liver enzymes as well to balance triacylglycerol and lipid peroxidation in the liver [6].
The researchers believe that the detoxifying liver and kidneys abilities of lemon juice are related to its high citric acid content (kidneys) and high antioxidant capacity (liver).
Example: Liver Detox Tea
Ingredients: lemon, ginger root, cloves, cinnamon, raw honey, stevia. See the complete recipe.
Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil has a long history of traditional use as food and medicine. According to the medical literature, there are multiple ways olive oil can protect the liver. The data suggests that olive oil can reduce fatty liver disease, prevent liver cells injury, and reduce lipid peroxidation [7].
Additional studies also found that olive oil can protect the kidneys as well. According to the evidence, olive oil has the ability to reduce the growth of urinary stones, control kidney inflammation, and prevent kidney damage [8, 9].
Example: Detox Parasite Cleanse Salad Dressing
Ingredients: olive oil, apple cider vinegar, lemon, garlic, himalayan salt, black pepper, mustard. See the complete recipe.
Beetroot Juice
The detoxifying liver and kidneys properties of beets, come from their ability to increase the blood flow to the kidneys, and reduce oxidative damage to the liver.
Beets are rich in natural chemicals called nitrates. When you drink beet juice, the body converts the nitrates into nitric oxide [10]. In the kidney, nitric oxide play a key role in many important functions needed to regulate and maintain healthy kidneys functions [11].
In his post “The Kidney Dysfunction Epidemic”, Dr. Joseph Pizzorno described a study where beetroot juice was able to increase blood flow to the Kidneys, up to 26%. According to Dr. Joseph [12]:
Increasing blood flow to the kidneys has a huge impact on improving detoxification and decreasing oxidative stress.
Beets are also considered as the top detoxing foods for the liver. Beetroot is a rich source of a class of antioxidants known as betalains. According to research, beetroot may have a protective effect against oxidative damage to the liver [13].
Example: Kidney Cleanse Juice
Ingredients: Ingredients: celery, carrots, cucumbers, beet, apple, orange. See the complete recipe.
Ginger
There’s a very good reason why you can find ginger root in almost every liver and kidney cleanse recipe. According to research, ginger has the ability to improve kidney function and protect kidneys from different toxins. The evidence suggests that ginger can decrease inflammation and oxidative damage to kidney tissue when exposed to a wide variety of toxins [14].
Multiple studies also suggest that ginger can improve liver enzymes profile and other nonalcoholic fatty liver disease characteristics [15].
44 nonalcoholic fatty liver patients that took 2 grams of ginger for 12 weeks, showed improvements in certain liver enzymes, inflammation, insulin resistance and other nonalcoholic fatty liver disease characteristics [16].
Example: Liver Cleanse Juice
Ingredients: celery, spinach, carrots, beetroot, ginger root, lemon, apple, cucumbers, stevia, cinnamon. See the complete recipe.
Blueberries
Multiple studies suggests that blueberries can protect the kidneys from disease, due to their ability to preserve blood flow to the kidneys, decrease inflammation, and delay damage and injury to the kidneys [17, 18, 19].
Regarding the liver, research data suggests that blueberries antioxidant properties can decrease the development of chronic liver damage, scarring of the liver, and liver failure [20, 21].
Carrots
Carrots have a long history of traditional use to treat kidney disease and other urinary disorders. Modern science was able to validate this use. According to research, carrots antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and high beta carotene content, may help to reduce kidney toxicity and protect the kidney from damage [22 ,23].
Additional evidence also suggests that carrots can protect the liver as well [24]. According to research, the bioactive components of carrot can improve liver functions in cases of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [25].
Pomegranate Juice
The research data on pomegranates is quite remarkable. Multiple studies found that pomegranates can help prevent or treat several types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other diseases [26].
These benefits also include the liver and kidneys health. Several studies were able to demonstrate pomegranates detoxifying liver and kidneys benefits. Pomegranate juice was able to reduce the oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver, and protect the liver against various liver injuries [27, 28].
Other studies found that pomegranate juice was able to prevent crystal depositions, kidney stone formation, and protect the kidneys from cellular damage caused by exposure to heavy metals [29, 30].
Turmeric
With a long history of traditional use and a large number of studies, turmeric is one of the most potent detoxifying liver and kidneys herbs.
Curcumin, the main active compound of turmeric, has shown anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and anticancer activities. [31].
A study that compared curcumin to placebo, found that curcumin reduced liver fat content by 78.9% vs 27.5% in the placebo group, regulate elevated liver enzymes, and improve cholesterol triglycerides profile. [32].
Another study concluded that curcumin can reduce harmful molecules that may lead to inflammation in chronic kidney disease. [33].
Example: Kidney Cleanse Tea
Ingredients: spring water, dandelion, turmeric, lemon, black pepper, stevia. See the complete recipe.

Low Carb Chocolate Mousse Detox Recipe : Benefits
When we developed the low carb chocolate mousse detox recipe, we focused on both taste and health benefits. Below are the main benefits, with links to the published studies when applicable.
Low Carbs Doesn’t Mean Low Energy
The low carb mousse recipe includes different nutrients that boost your energy levels. We strategically used fast and slow acting ingredients, so you get both the quick energy boost with the sustained energy that may last for many hours as well.
The coconut butter and cacao have unique nutrients the body can quickly digest and utilize, so you feel the energy boost shortly after you eat the mousse.
This is very important. The research data suggests that high intake of dietary fiber can significantly reduce the risk for developing certain gastrointestinal diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, duodenal ulcer, diverticulitis, constipation, and hemorrhoids. A diet high in fiber may also reduce the risk to develop coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity [2].
Furthermore, the low carb chocolate mousse is high in soluble fiber, which can act as prebiotic, a food source for the healthy bacteria in the gut. This means that it can promote the growth of probiotic and contribute to better gut health [3].
Natural Cleansing & Detoxification
All our detox recipes are specifically designed to help the body to naturally cleanse and detox. The low carb chocolate mousse recipe is no exception.
In addition to the soluble fiber, the recipe is also high in insoluble fiber.
Insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water, and can pass through the gut largely intact [4]. This fiber adds bulk to the stool which can help to promote regular healthy bowel movement.
Think about insoluble fiber as rough brooms inside your colon that grabs accumulated waste buildup and toxins on their way out.
The recipe also includes natural antimicrobial and antifungal ingredients such as coconut oil and cinnamon, which can help they body to get rid of parasites, candida yeasts and other pathogens.
Inflammation: The Omega-3 / Omega-6 Fatty Acids Ratio
Both omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids are essential and are needed to support good health. A growing number of evidence, however, suggests that excessive amounts of omega 6 fatty acids in the diet can lead to inflammatory, autoimmune, cardiovascular diseases, and may increase the risk to develop cancer.
According to research, western diets are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, and have excessive amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. In comparison, human beings evolved on a diet with equal amounts of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids. In the average western diet, however, the amount of omega-6 is up to 15 times more than the omega-3.
Multiple studies suggest that proper omega-6/omega-3 ratio may be able to decrease risk for breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, suppress inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, beneficial effect on patients with asthma [5].
We addressed both concerns in the low carb chocolate mousse recipe:
Omega 3 : 8 grams (500% of your daily values).
Omega 6: 11.5 grams (68% of your daily values).
The Nutrients In The Low Carb Chocolate Mousse
The Ingredients In The Low Carb Chocolate Mousse
Below is a summary of the scientific evidence on the ingredient in the recipe.
Chia Seeds
Chia seeds have a long history of traditional use for over 5,500 years, and were one of the most important staple foods in the the diet of Mayas and Aztecs [5].
The research data suggests that chia seeds are an excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid omega-3 fatty acid (ALA), vegetable protein, dietary fiber, antioxidants, and important minerals [6].
When you put chia in water or other liquids, they form a gel within 5-10 minutes. This is a very popular way to make pouding, mousse recipes, and also to thicken smoothies and soups. Once in gel form, the body can digests the chia seeds without the need to blend.
Chia seeds are also well known to promote satiation. A study that had 24 young women add chia seeds to their breakfast, concluded that chia seed consumption may induce short-term satiety in healthy individuals [7].
Coconut
Coconut butter is the meat of the coconut after it goes through grinding process that turns the coconut meat into butter consistency. So you get both the coconut oil, and in addition, the other nutrients in the coconut meat.
The reason we included coconut butter as a part of the recipe, has to do with a few unique characteristic of coconut: cleansing, antifungal, anti microbial, energy, and flavor.
Cleansing, Antifungal, Antimicrobial
Coconut oil is well known for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties, and demonstrated significant antifungal activity against candida yeast and other pathogens [8, 9].
Energy
Coconut oil is a rich source of medium-chain triglycerides, commonly known as MCT oils. These oils are different from most oils in the way the body digests them. The body can utilize the MCT oils much quicker to significantly boost the energy levels.
This is a well known use of coconut oil you can see in many low carbs dietary protocols such as keto diet, pre workout supplements, and as a way to improve exercise performance [10].
For this reason, many nutrition experts consider MCT oil as one of the best alternative energy sources to carbs.
Flavor & Texture
Flavor & texture wise, coconut butter adds a creamy mousse like texture, with a rich full coconut flavor into the recipe.
Cacao
For most people chocolate is a treat. For many people who try to stay healthy, however, chocolate may be one of these forbidden foods.
Good new. Chocolate may me good for you after all. What gives chocolate the bad rap, is that most of the chocolate products you find at the store, contain high amount of sugars, and low quality heavily processed cacao beans.
According to research, however, cacao has more phenolic antioxidants than most foods. Multiple studies suggest that cacao consumption may help to protect nerves from injury and inflammation, and improve satiety, cognitive function, and mood [11, 12].
Due to these benefits, many health experts recommend to consume cacao on an ongoing basis.
It is important to remember the difference between chocolate and cacao: chocolate is made from the beans and seeds of the cacao tree, together with other ingredients that may not be as healthy. Cacao, on the other hand, has been consumed for many centuries in its natural unprocessed form.
We recommended to use raw organic cacao powder as a part of this recipe.
Nuts : Hazelnuts
Many studies suggest that nuts have nutritional characteristics that can benefit human health and prevent many diseases. When you introduce nuts into your diet on an ongoing basis, you significantly increase in the quality of the diet. Nuts are rich in essential fatty acids, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and bioactive compounds with antioxidant potential [13].
Unlike carbs that often cause a quick energy boost followed by a crash when the blood sugars drop, the energy you get from nuts and seeds in more subtle and can last much longer. For this reason, nuts play a key role in many low carb diets, as an alternative source of fuel.
Why hazelnuts?
When we made the low carb chocolate mousse, we tested different nuts and seeds. The combination that our testers liked the most, was the hazelnuts – coconut butter – cacao. Second place – pecans, third place – cashews.
As for the health benefits of hazelnuts, out of the different options of nuts, they have one of the best balance profile of fatty acids. So if you are looking to control the levels of omega 6 in your diet, but still enjoy the health benefits of nuts, hazelnuts are an excellent choice. Hazelnuts make a very good source of vitamin E, copper, magense, and other minerals.
Not surprisingly, the research data suggests that hazelnuts may improve inflammatory markers and reduce the risk to develop cardiovascular risk [14]. One study that tested the combination of hazelnuts and cacao, found that this combination improved the artery blood flow in smokers [15].
Hemp Seeds
The are two reasons we recommend to include hemp seeds as a part of the low carb chocolate mousse recipe.
The first reason is the nutrients in hemp seeds. The nutritional profile is simply exceptional. Similar to chia seeds, hemp seeds are one of the only plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid omega-3 fatty acid (ALA). Hemp seeds are also very high in easily to digest high quality protein [16, 17].
You can blend them with all the ingredients or add them just before you eat the mousse.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has a long traditional history of use as food (spice) and medicine. We put cinnamon as optional for this recipe, because not all people like cinnamon with their chocolate.
Besides the flavor, as far as the health benefits of cinnamon in the recipe:
Cleansing, antimicrobial, antifungal: Multiple studies suggested that cinnamon may be effective against different types of pathogens, including MRSA bacteria, streptococcus mutans, mycoplasma hominis, and candida yeasts [18, 19, 20, 21].
Healthy Sugar Levels: Additional studies also suggest that cinnamon intake is associated with a statistically significant decrease in fasting glucose levels [22].
The candida tea recipe below is a great natural home remedy to safely cleanse and detox candida yeast from your body. The recipe uses natural antifungal foods and herbs for candida you can easily find at your local store.
In addition to its antifungal properties, the tea may also give you jittery free energy to support your daily activities.

Top Tip From Our Members
Cold vs. Hot: The candida tea also tastes great when it is cold, which makes it a great fit for the summer. For best results, if you plan to drink it cold, most of our members prefer it without the cinnamon. You can make more servings of the tea in advance without the coconut oil, and store the tea in the refrigerator for a few days. Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil just before you drink the tea.
Like Vanilla? You may want to add a few drops of alcohol free vanilla extract, as it seems to really improve the flavor. Some stevia brands combine natural vanilla extract with the stevia drops.
More Energy: Need more energy but still want to avoid coffee? Many of our members like to add 1 dropper of Dr. Group’s Ginseng Fuzion just before they drink the tea, which includes adaptogenic herbs such as ashwagandha and ginseng. Besides its ability to naturally improve energy [1], Ginseng has demonstrated antifungal activity against Candida albicans in a few studies [2, 3] and is also well known for its ability to naturally boost the immune system [4].
What’s In My Candida Tea : Summary Of Evidence
As we mentioned, every ingredient in this recipe has a long history of traditional use and is also supported by science.
Below you will find a summary of the evidence and links to the published studies. While there are many additional benefits of course, we focused on the benefits for the candida cleanse.
Green Tea
EGCG, the most abundant catechin in green tea demonstrated antifungal activity against candida albicans in multiple studies [5, 6].
Another known health benefit of green tea, which it is important to mention. Many human studies also suggest that green tea catechins may help to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, type II diabetes, and cardiovascular risk factors [7].
What about black tea for candida? We do prefer to use green tea for candida, as it has more evidence and research data on its antifungal properties. If you prefer black tea, however, it may still provide benefits for the candida cleanse as well. According to research, black tea polyphenols also have antifungal properties that can be effective against different candida species [8].
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is well known for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties, and demonstrated significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans and other pathogens [9]. According to the evidence, capric and lauric acids, two of the medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil, are the ones mainly responsible for its ability to kill candida [10].
There’s another reason coconut oil makes such a great fit for the candida diet. Coconut oil makes an effective alternative energy source to carbs.
According to the evidence, the Medium-chain triglycerides in coconut oil (MCT oil), can increase exercise performance [11].
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has a long traditional history of use as food (spice) and medicine. According to research data, Cinnamon demonstrated potent antifungal activity against different species of candida [12, 13].
Additional studies also suggest that cinnamon intake is associated with a statistically significant decrease in fasting glucose levels [14]. This indirectly may benefit the candida diet as well, especially if you have a history of high blood sugar.
Ginger
Ginger is a well known home remedy for candida and other pathogens. According to research data, ginger demonstrated significant antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Candida Krusei yeast as well as other types of human pathogens [15, 16, 17].
There’s another reason we recommend to have ginger in the candida tea recipe. According to one study, green tea, cinnamon and ginger may work together in synergy to lower blood sugar levels after a meal. When the researchers combined all the three together they noticed the best results, better than when they tested each herb by itself [18].
Lemon
Drinking warm water with lemon juice in the morning is an ancient Ayurvedic practice to stimulate digestion and detox the body. According to research, lemon juice may also support the liver [19] and kidneys [20].
Flavor wise, lemon juice complements the green tea and ginger taste. Interestingly, is also blends very well with the cinnamon and coconut flavor.
The natural parasite cleanse protocol below summarizes our 15 years of parasite cleansing and detoxification experience. Based on our research, it is one of the best natural ways you can do to get rid of parasites, naturally and safely.
The idea of the natural parasite cleanse protocols is simple:
You starve the parasites, make them weak, and strengthen your immune system to fight future infections.
Special consideration was given in the protocol to both effectiveness and safety in order to avoid any parasite cleanse side effects or parasite die off symptoms. Safety should always comes first. Especially when you naturally cleanse at home.
Natural Parasite Cleanse Protocol
3 steps to get rid of parasites:
Cleanse the intestines from waste buildup that feed parasites. See: intestinal cleanse.
Take antiparasitic herbs and foods to make them even weaker. See: herbs, diet.
Take probiotics to help your immune system to fight future infections. See: probiotics.
Duration: week 1 and when needed during the cleanse.
The objective of the intestinal parasite cleanse is simple : starve the parasites. To do so, you get rid of waste buildup and undigested food particles in your intestines that feed the parasites.
One of the best ways to naturally and safely cleanse the intestines, is to do a natural oxygen colon cleanse (Oxy-powder):
Oxy-Powder releases natural oxygen in the intestines that loosens waste buildup and undigested food particles that tend to stick to the intestinal wall. This allows the body to flush out this waste naturally through normal bowel movement.
Most people start to feel a significant relief from many of their symptoms as they eliminate the stored waste. Don’t be surprised if you see dead parasites or fungus in your stool. This is common, as the waste buildup is the food source of many intestinal parasites and fungus. While this may not be the most pleasant thing to see, it is still much better to have these out of your body.
There’s another reason we recommend to start the parasite cleanse with the intestinal cleanse. It may also help the body to eliminate the dead parasites and their toxins quicker.
During the parasite cleanse, the body eliminates many of the dead parasites and their released toxins through bowel movements. For this reason, you want to make sure your colon is free from waste buildup that can slow down the elimination process, and make toxins circulate in your system longer. Having waste buildup in the colon is one of the main reason behind the side effects people experience during the cleanse. It just takes the body much more time to eliminate these toxins.
Herbs That Kill Parasites
Duration: weeks 2-6.
So we cut down the main food source of the parasites, now it is time to make them even more weak. There are a number of unique herbs known to kill parasites that can further improve the parasite cleanse due to potent anti parasitic properties in them.
A single antiparasitic herb, however, is not going to work against all parasitic infections. Since different herbs use different mechanism to kill parasites, it is common to include multiple herbs as a part of the parasite cleanse.
The wormwood, black walnut, clove combination is one of the most common herbal parasite cleanse, known to kill different types of worms [1], parasites, bacteria and fungus [2]. One reason you always want to include clove, is due to its ability to inhibit parasite eggs and larvae in the body, which is essential in order to disrupt the parasite life cycle.
During weeks 2-6 in our parasite cleanse, we recommend to take Dr. Group’s Paratrex which we find both effective and safe.
Directions: take 3 capsules 20 minutes before breakfast and 20 minutes before lunch. If you have never used Paratrex before, start with 1 capsule twice a day and gradually increase each day.
Parasite Cleanse Diet
Duration: weeks 1-6.
The parasite cleanse diet plays a key role in the parasite cleanse; you want to choose the best foods that kill parasites, and also avoid problematic foods known to feed parasites or weaken your immune system.
Due to its importance, we wrote an entire separate post on the parasite cleanse diet plan, including natural home remedies, diy recipes and the relevant scientific evidence. (Read the complete post).
Below is a summary of the key guidelines, foods to avoid and foods to eat during the parasite cleanse.
Foods To Avoid
Foods to avoid include most processed foods, foods that are high in carbs, fried foods, and sugary beverages. We also recommend to limit gluten, wheat, dairy, and alcohol as much as possible, as these can also feed parasites in some cases.
Most people do very well on a balanced medium protein, medium fat, medium carb diet. Unless you are also dealing with a candida infection, there is usually no need to drastically lower your carbs or be super strict.
You may also want to watch for digestive issues and sensitivity to different foods you may eat, as these may weaken your immune system. If you suspect you have sensitivity to a certain food, eliminate it from your diet for a few days and see if it helps.
Foods That Kill Parasites
Based on our experience, what works for most people is to eat a clean, whole food based diet. Certain foods do have unique components in them that can kill different types of parasites, fungus and other pathogens. The best common foods that kill parasites include: pumpkin seeds, papaya seeds, garlic, turmeric, coconut oil, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, ginger, and cinnamon.
Try to eat raw fresh fruits and vegetables every day. These are high in insoluble fiber that helps to promote healthy digestion and good bowel movements. Think about insoluble fiber as rough brooms inside your intestines that grabs accumulated waste, toxins and dead parasites on their way out.
A good example is our detox salad meal recipe, which you can see in the picture above. This recipe is very rich in insoluble fiber, and combines a raw coleslaw recipe with parasite cleansing foods and herbs. (See recipe).
Probiotics For Parasites
Duration : weeks 1-6.
More and more studies suggest that the use of probiotics may help to control parasites and other pathogens [3]. The researchers believe that probiotics can help the immune system to fight future infections as well [4].
That is exactly the reason we recommend probiotics during the parasite cleanse. It is less in order to kill parasites, but more in order to support the immune system ability to control and fight future infections.
Good options are dairy free vegan probiotics from a trusted source that guarantees the effectiveness and safety of the probiotic strains that are in the formula.
It is important that the company who makes the probiotics also guarantees their stability and potency. One study that tested 15 different probiotic supplements found that only 4 out of the 15 products met their label [5]. We have seen this many times in our research as well.
For the parasite cleanse we like to use Bacillus laterosporus (Latero-Flora) during week 1-6 of the parasite cleanse. This strain has a natural ability to encapsulate itself when exposed to different environment changes. Due to this ability, it is highly stable and can easily pass the stomach acids and become very active in the body.
Parasite Cleanse Side Effects
Parasite cleanse side effects may occur as parasites start to die during the cleanse. These symptoms can affect your entire body and your well-being.
Common symptoms may include: skin itching, rashes, flu-like symptoms, fever, headache, weakness, fatigue, nausea, body aches and pain, digestive issues such as diarrhea, bloating, gas, cramps, stomach pain, tenderness, excess mucus, breathing problems, and even vomiting. Some people also feel anxiety, depression, brain fog and additional mind balance symptoms.
Parasite cleanse die off symptoms do not mean that the parasite cleanse is working. This is a common misconception that is simply not true.
Based on our experience, most parasite cleanse side effects are unnecessary and you should avoid them with proper attention. We wrote an entire separate post on how to avoid parasite cleanse side effects, or minimize them in case you already experience issues. We included simple guidelines and natural home remedies we have found both effective and safe. (Read the complete post).
Beyond The Parasite Cleanse – Maintain Your Results
Should I still continue to use paratrex or other herbal parasite cleanse products after week 6?
Unless there are still symptoms present, we recommend to stop taking all antiparasitic herbs and see how you feel. You can still still include antiparasitic foods in your diet if you like.
For maintenance, you can use oregano oil a few times a week, which also makes a great home remedy during winter against various infections. Multiple studies suggested that carvacrol, the major active component in oregano oil, have antiparasitic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties [6, 7, 8].
When you get oregano oil, make sure it is the mediterranean oregano oil variety which typically has the highest content of carvacrol. Oregatrex, is a very good example, and one of the few certified organic oregano oils in the US that guarantee a minimum of 80% carvacrol.
Parasite Cleanse – Why Six Weeks?
The life cycle of human parasites varies and can take anywhere between several weeks to months from the egg phase to the adult parasite phase. The average duration of parasite cleanse we recommend is 6 weeks.
Using high amount of aggressive antiparasitic herbs and foods will not shorten this time. In most cases, you will have to stop the cleanse and let your body recover, before you can start again. For this reason, for the best parasite cleanse benefits, consistency is the key.
Parasites In Humans Stats
Most people think of parasitic infections as something that only occurs in poor and developing countries. Parasitic infections, however, affect millions of people in United States every year.
According to the US centers for disease control and prevention (CDC), more than 60 million people in the United States are chronically infected with Toxoplasma gondii alone [9].
Parasites are designed by nature to use our body as their host, and they do it very effectively. The research identifies specific mechanisms that allow parasites to attach to the intestinal walls using suction cups or hooks, and disrupt our immune system’s ability to recognize them as invaders and fight them. As this is not scary enough, multiple studies clearly demonstrate how parasites can influence and manipulate the way the host behave [10].
Not surprisingly, when it comes to parasites in humans, most experts believe it is not a question of if, it is more a question of how many parasites you have, and how they affect your health.
