The objective of the intestinal parasite cleanse is simple : starve the parasites. To do so, you get rid of waste buildup and undigested food particles in your intestines that feed the parasites.

Foods to avoid include most processed foods, foods that are high in carbs, fried foods, and sugary beverages. We also recommend to limit gluten, wheat, dairy, and alcohol as much as possible, as these can also feed parasites in some cases.

Most people do very well on a balanced medium protein, medium fat, medium carb diet. Unless you are also dealing with a candida infection, there is usually no need to drastically lower your carbs or be super strict.

You may also want to watch for digestive issues and sensitivity to different foods you may eat, as these may weaken your immune system. If you suspect you have sensitivity to a certain food, eliminate it from your diet for a few days and see if it helps.

Foods That Kill Parasites

Based on our experience, what works for most people is to eat a clean, whole food based diet. Certain foods do have unique components in them that can kill different types of parasites, fungus and other pathogens. The best common foods that kill parasites include: pumpkin seeds, papaya seeds, garlic, turmeric, coconut oil, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, ginger, and cinnamon.

Try to eat raw fresh fruits and vegetables every day. These are high in insoluble fiber that helps to promote healthy digestion and good bowel movements. Think about insoluble fiber as rough brooms inside your intestines that grabs accumulated waste, toxins and dead parasites on their way out.

Probiotics For Parasites

More and more studies suggest that the use of probiotics may help to control parasites and other pathogens [3]. The researchers believe that probiotics can help the immune system to fight future infections as well [4].

That is exactly the reason we recommend probiotics during the parasite cleanse. It is less in order to kill parasites, but more in order to support the immune system ability to control and fight future infections.

Good options are dairy free vegan probiotics from a trusted source that guarantees the effectiveness and safety of the probiotic strains that are in the formula.

It is important that the company who makes the probiotics also guarantees their stability and potency. One study that tested 15 different probiotic supplements found that only 4 out of the 15 products met their label [5].
We have seen this many times in our research as well.

For the parasite cleanse we like to use Bacillus laterosporus (Latero-Flora) during week 1-6 of the parasite cleanse. This strain has a natural ability to encapsulate itself when exposed to different environment changes. Due to this ability, it is highly stable and can easily pass the stomach acids and become very active in the body.

Beyond The Parasite Cleanse – Maintain Your Results

Should I still continue to use paratrex or other herbal parasite cleanse products after week 6?

Unless there are still symptoms present, we recommend to stop taking all antiparasitic herbs and see how you feel. You can still still include antiparasitic foods in your diet if you like.

For maintenance, you can use oregano oil a few times a week, which also makes a great home remedy during winter against various infections. Multiple studies suggested that carvacrol, the major active component in oregano oil, have antiparasitic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties [6, 7, 8].

For this reason, you should listen to your body and only eat when you are hungry. In this fruit meal, you eat your favorite choice of fresh high fiber “meaty” raw fruit. Great choices are apples, berries, bananas, mangos, pineapple and papaya.

We prefer fruits that have a more “meaty” texture over watery fruits such as watermelon or melons, since they work better to stimulate digestion and “push” stored waste out of the digestive tract.

This simple strategy works very well not only for the one day cleanse, but also for life. It is always best to eat fruits on an empty stomach as the first solid meal of the day.

When it comes to fruits, it is important to follow a few basic guidelines:

  • Always eat fruits on an empty stomach.
  • Go for fresh and ripe fruits. Never eat unripe fruits. Unripe fruits can cause digestive issues such as gas, bloating and even make you constipated. Think about green bananas vs. yellow ripe ones.
  • Don’t mix different type of fruits together. It is ok however, to eat different fresh berries together.

Serving size: eat no more than 50 grams of net carbs per a fruit meal. This typically means one – two whole medium size fruits such as bananas or apples. For smaller fruits (berries) or if you like to slice your fruits, this usually means 2-3 cups of berries or slices of mango, pineapple, papayas, etc.

Ingredients

  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 2-4 small cayenne peppers optional
  • 2-4 clove garlic
  • 2 medium red bell peppers

  • 2 oz almonds unroasted, unsalted

Instructions

  • Cut the cauliflower into florets. Remove the stem.
  • Grade the cauliflower florets to get white rice grains size. You can use a food processor or a box grater with medium size holes.
  • Using paper towels, press the grated cauliflower to remove excess moisture.
  • Chop the red onion, garlic, carrots, scallions, and peppers.
  • Heat the coconut oil in a wok or cast-iron skillet, medium-high heat.
  • Add the chopped red onions and garlic. Sauté until onions turn light brown color, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the grated cauliflower and mix well for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the rest of the veggies and mix well.
  • Taste and add the chipotle chili powder, turmeric powder Mix well. Add himalayan pink salt as needed.
  • Do not overcook the cauliflower. Keep stir-frying until all liquids are absorbed and it has your desired consistency. 
  • Remove from heat.
  • Right Before Serving: Add the hemp seeds, almonds, and nutritional yeast. Mix well. Enjoy! The nutritional yeast is not recommended for the first few weeks of the candida diet.

A vegan cleanse, diet, or lifestyle may have a different meaning to different people. In this post, we’ll answer one of the most common question we get everyday: why we recommend to go vegan when you cleanse or detox.

Below you will find a summary of our 15 years research and the top reasons we like to  keep our protocols and recipes 100% vegan. For the purpose of this post, we’ll focus on the health benefits, and not get into additional aspects such as the environment and others.

1. It’s What You Don’t Eat

Many of the benefits of detox and cleansing are not from what you eat or drink. They are from what you don’t. Eating a vegan diet means that you stop to consume the toxins and heavy metals commonly found in animal products.

Most people know this already regarding meat. But what about fish? Isn’t fish healthy for us? Maybe for our ancestors who used to live in a much cleaner world. The medical community and several health organizations have clearly expressed concerns about toxic high levels of mercury in fish. Not only you need to know which type of fish to select, but also its origin to confirm it comes from clean water [1].

2. Give Your Digestion A Break

Most people think of joint, muscle pain, headaches or migraines when they think about inflammation. According to the research data, however, the negative effect of inflammation on our health may go above and beyond these. A growing number of evidence suggests that chronic inflammation may be the root cause of a long list of health conditions. Just to name a few, autoimmune disorders, cancer, heart disease, IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome), asthma, diabetes, alzheimer’s disease among others [3].

4. Nourish Your Body

Assuming you choose healthy whole food options, chances are you will be eating much more healthy nutrients than before. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other phytochemicals, all linked to endless health benefits. Most people on a western diet do not get enough of these.

Not surprisingly, many people notice a difference a few days after going vegan. The energy levels, mood are up, skin becomes clear, digestion improves. We see these in our research and cleansing protocols every day. In our opinion, these improvements may be due to two key factors:

  1. You stop eating animal products so your body wastes less energy on having to digest these foods and filter their toxins.
  2. You get higher levels of healthy nutrients from easy to digest plant based foods.

5. Vegan Diet May Help Protect Against Chronic Disease

The research data on this topic may not always be conclusive, although a large number of health authorities accept this connection. A growing number of evidence suggests that a vegan diet may help to protect against obesity, hypertension, type-2 diabetes, and cardiovascular mortality [4].

While more studies are needed in order to fully study long term veganisms, anecdotal evidence suggests that many people notice improvements in key risk factors in a matter of a few weeks after they switched to a vegan diet. This can be easily tested with most blood tests. Something you may want to consider sharing with your doctor if you have any of these health concerns.

How About A Vegetarian Cleanse?

Many of our vegetarian readers are surprised to learn that the connection between dairy and many health issues is well known and extensively studied.

According to the U.S. national library of medicine [5]:

  • 65 percent of the human population has a reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy.
  • Sensitivity to milk protein may also occur in people that can digest lactose. There is increasing evidence that A1 beta-casein, a protein which is found in most milk in the U.S and Europe is also linked to cows’ milk intolerance [6].

And this is just the beginning:

  • A study that evaluated individuals aged 7-30 years, found that any dairy consumption, such as milk, yogurt, and cheese, was linked to an increased risk for Acne Vulgaris [7].
  • Cohort studies done in sweden, found that high milk intake was linked to higher mortality in men and women. High milk consumption was also correlated with higher fracture incidence in women [8].

The evidence doesn’t stop here. A large number of health authorities such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, PhD, Dr. Neal Barnard, M.D. suggest there’s a link between dairy to cancer. According to the Physicians Committee [9]:

Milk and other dairy products are the top source of saturated fat in the American diet, contributing to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have also linked dairy to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers.

We start the list of the kidney cleansing herbs with the most famous herb for kidney health: Chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri).

Uva Ursi

Main benefits: prevents urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Uva Ursi Hydrangea Kidney Cleansing Herbs

Laxative Teas Risks

A common problem with laxative and colon cleanse teas is that they include many ingredients together. So there may be interactions between ingredients. You may be sensitive to just one ingredients. It is very hard to test all these different possibilities of herbs.

The solution: Simplicity. There’s really no need to combine so many herbs or ingredients for an effective colon cleansing.

You can see many of the laxatives herbs in both colon cleanse teas and colon cleanse products. This list of laxative herbs may include:  Senna,  Marshmallow root, Rhubarb, Aloe vera latex, Cascara sagrada, Psyllium seeds and more.

Who makes pure colon detox?

When it comes to natural colon cleanse and detox products, the first question you should always ask is who makes it. Can you trust the company that makes the product? Does the brand use the best highest quality ingredients that are also backed up by science as both safe and effective?

This is the first red flag we see with pure colon detox. We couldn’t find a website or clear information about the company.

Pure colon detox ingredients

The list of ingredients in pure colon detox include: Rhubarb, Cayenne Pepper, Licorice Root, Ginger, Aloe Vera, Fennel Seed. These ingredients are commonly used for colon cleansing. Do they work?

To determine the potency of herbs, you need to see the amount of the active components in each ingredient. You see this in all high quality products, very often with lab results to confirm the active components. This is something you do not see in low quality products.

This is very important. The active components can affect both potency and safety as well.

A good example is Aloe vera. Aloe whole leaf also contains aloe latex component that can act as a strong laxative. The Aloe latex may also cause allergic reaction or sensitivity. In addition, most of the health benefits and nutrients are found in the inner leaf which is latex free.

For this reason, to enjoy all the amazing benefits of aloe vera, without the side effects, you should only use the inner leaf of aloe vera. Pure colon detox doesn’t mention which part of the leaf is used. We can safely assume it is the cheaper inferior whole leaf.

Pure colon detox : source of ingredients

When you use natural herbs, the source of the ingredients and their freshness matters. This is a very important. We see it in our research every time we compare fresh organic herbs to herbs that come from “unknown” sources.

Lab results usually tell the story: when a product doesn’t reveal the source of its ingredients, there are very little active ingredients. Even worse, many herbs are grown in polluted areas or have high amounts of contaminants and toxins. Exactly the toxins you try to cleanse, detox, and get rid of!

The solution is simple: always get your products from a trusted source.  The price may be higher; it is much better however, to pay for the high quality ingredients than for hype and marketing costs.

This is another red flag we see in pure colon detox.

Pure Colon Detox & Weight Loss

Another red flag is the weight loss claim. As we clearly mentioned in many of our colon cleanse guides, the weight you may lose during the colon cleanse is not fat. It is simply the stored waste that is being flushed out of the body.

Pure Colon Detox & Garcinia Cambogia

Garcinia Cambogia Pure Colon Detox

Some versions of pure colon detox show the Garcinia Cambogia fruit as one of the ingredients. The Garcinia Cambogia is a very popular ingredient that has a very strong marketing behind it, with many claims.

Is Garcinia Cambogia good for weight loss or colon cleansing?

According to some studies, the active ingredient in the Garcinia Cambogia rind, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), may help produce small short term weight loss.1  These studies however, are small and not conclusive. Most nutrition experts that are specialized in weight loss do not consider Garcinia Cambogia or HCA as an effective weight loss ingredient. Most weight loss or fat burners products that include Garcinia Cambogia or HCA, always combine it with much stronger weight loss ingredients.

As for colon cleansing, we are unaware of any reliable evidence that support the use of Garcinia Cambogia in order to cleanse or detox the body.

Pure Colon Detox Analysis – Our Recommendation

With the lack of supported information on the brand, source of ingredients, and active components in them, we recommend to avoid using pure colon detox. We do not consider the brand behind pure colon detox a trusted source. 

Based on our experience, a much better option that is that is often recommended by many natural health practitioners is oxygen colon cleanse.
